How is IGNOU CGPA calculated?

IGNOU CGPA is a credit-weighted average of your grade points. Multiply each course's grade point (A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2, E=1) by its credits, add these products, then divide by the total credits.

What are IGNOU grade points?

IGNOU uses a five-point scale: A=5 (Excellent), B=4 (Very Good), C=3 (Good), D=2 (Satisfactory) and E=1 (Unsatisfactory or Fail). These grade points are used to calculate your CGPA.

What is the difference between GPA and CGPA in IGNOU?

GPA (often shown as SGPA) is your grade-point average for one semester, while CGPA is the cumulative average across all completed courses. Both use the same credit-weighted method.

How do I convert IGNOU CGPA to percentage?

There is no single universal formula. IGNOU has a programme-specific official conversion for some programmes, so confirm the accepted method. The most accurate approach is to calculate your percentage from your actual assignment and TEE marks.

Is CGPA x 9.5 correct for IGNOU?

No. CGPA x 9.5 and CGPA x 10 are conversion formulas for 10-point grading systems. IGNOU uses a five-point scale, so they do not fit.

What is a good CGPA in IGNOU?

A CGPA around 4 and above (a B grade) is generally considered good, and close to 5 (an A grade) is excellent. B roughly maps to 60% and above.

What is the maximum CGPA in IGNOU?

The maximum CGPA in IGNOU is 5.0, reached only if you earn an A grade (5 grade points) in every course.

What is the minimum CGPA to pass in IGNOU?

To clear a course you generally need at least a D grade (2 grade points, about 40%). For overall completion, a CGPA of roughly 2.0 or above is usually treated as the working minimum. Confirm your programme's exact rule with IGNOU.

Does IGNOU use a 10-point CGPA?

No. IGNOU uses a five-point scale, so grade points run from 5 (A) to 1 (E) and CGPA ranges from 1 to 5.

Is this IGNOU CGPA calculator accurate?

Yes. It uses IGNOU's official credit-weighted method on the correct five-point scale. Results are a self-help estimate, so always cross-check against your official IGNOU grade card.
