IGNOU M.Sc. (Counselling and Family Therapy) (MSCCFT) Course Details | School of Continuing Education (SOCE)

M.Sc. programme in the field of counselling and family therapy is focused at both social and employment perspectives which is gaining a lot of importance in present times. This programme aims to create professionals in this field because in present times need and demand for professional support in terms of counselling and family therapy has increased because of the contemporary social scenario. Counselling and family therapy is being increasingly recognized as a better approach towards all the positives like strengthening family ties, fostering positive parenting, and increasing resilience of individuals in vulnerable situations as well as for addressing negative aspects such as socio-psychological problems, maladaptive behaviours, declining mental health, and psychosomatic disorders.

One of the remarkable feature of this programme is that almost half the credits of this Master’s Degree Programme are ear-marked for application-oriented learning opportunities. Thus this programme is focused majorly on the applied aspects and opportunities. In the second year of the programme, the learner has the option to be trained in Marital and Family Therapy and Counselling, Child and Adolescent Counselling and Family Therapy or Substance Abuse Counselling and Family Therapy. Yet another special feature  of the programme  is that it has a provision of exit point for learners (after successful completion of the first-year courses) in the form of

P.G. Diploma in Counselling and Family Therapy (PGDCFT). This programme has theory, supervised practicum, internship, and dissertation as components

Eligibility: Bachelor’s degree with specialization in subjects like Human Development and Family Studies, Child Development, Human Development and Childhood Studies, Child Development and Family Relationships, Home Science, Psychology, Social Work, Medicine or other allied disciplines. “Allied disciplines” include Anthropology, Sociology, Education, Philosophy, MBBS or equivalent qualification in Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha or Homeopathy Medicines, Nursing etc. from a recognized University.

OR

Bachelor’s degree with a  higher degree in any  of the  above  mentioned subjects  or Bachelor’s  Degree along with a Post Graduate Diploma in Guidance and Counselling from a recognized University.

Medium of Instruction: English

Duration: Minimum 2 years and Maximum 5 years; offered only in July cycle of admissions.

Fee Structure: Rs. 33,600/- for full programme to be paid year wise @Rs. 16,800/- per year.
