The Problem This Book Was Written For

Semester 4 is short on papers and long on trouble. Two subjects, 42 of 48 topics rated three-star, a project running in parallel, and — the part that catches people out — two examination formats that are nothing like each other.

• You revise IBO-01 the way you revised MCO-07, expecting to pick five questions from a list, and open a paper split into Part A and Part B where Part A is compulsory and Part B wants four of the remainder.
• You treat IBO-01 Part A as a warm-up. It is 20 marks for four five-mark comments on statements, each of which has to be agreed or disagreed with and then defended, and it is the most reliably scorable block on the paper.
• IBO-06 asks you to distinguish a Euro Bond from a Foreign Bond and a Domestic Bond, and you describe all three without ever setting them against each other.
• You get an IBO-06 arbitrage or interest-parity question and stall, because the paper is descriptive in reputation and quantitative in practice.
• Your registration reads IBO-01 and IBO-06, IGNOU’s December 2025 paper heads itself IBO–001, half the catalogues shelve both codes under “M.Com 1st Year”, and you cannot tell which semester you are shopping for.

The volume answers all five: separate blueprints for the Part A comment format and the Part B essay, a compulsory-first ordering for IBO-01, comparison tables built specifically for the bond and exposure distinctions, an 18-row formula table behind IBO-06, and a plain statement of every spelling and shelf these two codes appear under.

Inside the Book: The Same Six Sections in Every Chapter

Both chapters follow the identical A-to-F spine used across the M.Com series, so Section C of IBO-06 sits where Section C of IBO-01 sits. With only two subjects sharing the pages, every section is roughly twice the size of its counterpart in the four-subject volumes.

One section differs by paper. Section E of IBO-06 carries the 18-row master formula table, which IBO-01 neither has nor needs, since IBO-01 never asks for a computed figure. Section E3 runs seven comparison tables in IBO-01 and eight in IBO-06 — unusually high for a two-subject volume, because both papers set distinguish-between questions constantly.

Your Two Papers, and What the Book Does for Each

The revised IGNOU M.Com fourth semester carries 18 credits across three components, but only two of them are examined by a written paper. The Common Prospectus labels the semester “Core / Specialization Course” and lists all three.

The two papers reward almost opposite habits, and the book’s revision order follows that rather than the code numbers. IBO-01 is the position-taking paper: its Part A gives you six statements and asks you to comment on any four, which means agreeing or disagreeing explicitly and then defending the stance in about a hundred words. IBO-06 is the mechanism paper: it wants the institution, the instrument or the exposure defined, then distinguished from its nearest neighbour, and increasingly it wants a rate computed. Carrying IBO-06 definitional terseness into an IBO-01 Part A comment loses marks, because a comment that never takes a position has not answered the question.

IBO-01 Help Book — International Business Environment

IBO-01 is a six-credit paper whose examination format is unlike anything else in the M.Com programme. Real IGNOU papers split it into Part A, a compulsory question asking you to comment on any four of six statements at five marks each, and Part B, from which four questions of twenty marks are attempted. Five answers in total, but only four of them chosen freely. Its four blocks cover international business and its environment; the economic and financial environment; the political, legal and regulatory environment; and the socio-cultural, technological and natural environment. Twenty of its 24 rated topics are three-star, running from the concept and scope of international business, the environment framework, globalisation and modes of entry, through economic systems, levels of development, balance of payments, exchange rate systems, the IMF and World Bank, trade theories, tariffs and non-tariff barriers, the optimum tariff argument and GATT, WTO and regional integration, into political risk, legal systems, the law of contract, commercial contracts and arbitration, and closing on Hofstede’s cultural dimensions and technology transfer. What the book supplies: seven blueprints — more than any other paper in the series, because the Part A comment needs its own frame — 50 model answers, 20 authorities from Adam Smith 1776 and Ricardo 1817 through Heckscher and Ohlin, Leontief, Vernon 1966, Linder, Krugman, Porter, Viner, Hofstede, Edward T. Hall, James Lee, Dunning, Johanson and Vahlne, Perlmutter, Bartlett and Ghoshal and Donaldson, to GATT 1947, the WTO from 1995, Bretton Woods 1944 and the New York Convention of 1958; seven comparison tables including tariff against quota and free trade area against customs union; and 28 definitions. The habit that decides marks is commitment: in Part A, state whether you agree or disagree in the first sentence, then justify. IBO-06 Help Book — International Business Finance

IBO-06 is the six-credit paper that reverts to the familiar M.Com shape — answer any five questions of twenty marks — and it is the densest paper in the entire programme by rating, with 22 of its 24 topics at three stars and only two at two. Its blocks run from the international monetary system and institutions, through foreign exchange markets and exchange rate determination, into international financial markets and instruments, and finish on exposure management, investment appraisal and multinational finance. The top band covers the monetary system’s evolution, the gold standard through Bretton Woods to the floating era, the IMF’s facilities, the World Bank Group, the ADB and AfDB, balance of trade against balance of payments, BoP disequilibrium and adjustment, the foreign exchange market’s structure, quotations, spreads and cross rates, purchasing power parity and interest parity, the equilibrium and asset approaches, two-point, three-point and covered interest arbitrage, money market instruments, the monetary transfer mechanism, Euro-currency and Euro-credit markets, Euro Bonds against foreign and domestic bonds, derivatives, transaction and translation and economic exposure, centralisation of exchange risk management, international capital budgeting and the cost of capital for foreign investment. What the book supplies: the volume’s only formula table at 18 rows, covering direct and indirect quotes, spread percentage, cross rates, forward premium, absolute and relative PPP and interest parity; 20 authorities from Bretton Woods 1944, Triffin and the Jamaica Accord of 1976 through Hume, Cassel, Keynes, Dornbusch, Meese and Rogoff, Markowitz, Sharpe, Modigliani and Miller, Hymer, Buckley and Casson, Dunning and Vernon 1966, to the Basel Committee, the ADB from 1966, the AfDB from 1964 and MIGA from 1988; eight comparison tables including Euro Bond against foreign bond and forward contract against currency option; and 28 definitions. The discipline here is comparative: define the instrument, then set it against its nearest neighbour, and where a rate is asked for, compute it and state the unit. Official Study Material or This Guide? You Need Both

Every careful buyer raises this, and across the 12 examinable credits of IBO-01 and IBO-06 the truthful answer does the book no favours. Is ignou study material enough for mcom? For a learner with a full semester and only 12 examinable credits to carry, very nearly. IGNOU’s own IBO-01 and IBO-06 blocks are free, they are the primary source, and the examiner sets from them. If you have not read them, read them — you can download IGNOU study material subject-wise at no cost, and the eGyanKosh access guide explains how to reach a block by course code, which matters here because both codes are catalogued under the international-business family rather than beside the MCO codes.

Across IBO-01’s four blocks and IBO-06’s four, each serves a purpose the other cannot. Six credits of IBO-06 blocks build the reasoning behind exchange rate determination; this volume turns that reasoning into an answer you can finish in thirty-two minutes with the parity condition already written out. Substituting this volume for the IBO-01 and IBO-06 blocks is what costs money and marks together. Are gullybaba and neeraj books worth it? Only on the same terms as this one: alongside the official blocks, never instead of them. Reading the blocks and then meeting IBO-01’s Part A without having practised a five-mark comment is the more frequent one. Condensed ignou notes occupy the ground in between and resolve neither the Part A comment problem nor the parity calculation.

How the Guide Book Maps to the Term-End Examination Pattern

Both papers run three hours for maximum marks 100, and there the resemblance stops. This is the only M.Com semester whose two papers use different structures, and mistaking one for the other costs marks before you write a word.

IBO-01 is a two-part paper. Real IGNOU papers print Part A as a compulsory question — comment on any four of six statements, five marks each, twenty in all — followed by Part B with the instruction to attempt any four questions of twenty marks, eighty in all. The instruction line reads “Answer both Part-A and Part-B”. Five answers reach 100 marks, but only four are freely chosen. The December 2025 paper heads itself IBO–001 and carries the reference A–96/IBO–001.

IBO-06 uses the standard shape. Its December 2025 and June 2025 papers both read “Answer any five questions. All questions carry equal marks”, each eight printed pages, referenced B–1172 and B–1425. The December 2023 paper reads “Answer any five questions” without the equal-marks clause, and the June 2024 paper reads “Attempt any five questions”. Its parts split unevenly — 8+6+6, 4+10+6, 3+5+12 — so read the marks against each part rather than dividing by two.

Both papers are printed under a shared header reading “POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS OPERATIONS / MASTER OF COMMERCE (PGDIBO/M.COM.)”, because both codes belong to PGDIBO as well as to M.Com. IBO-01 additionally appears under MCOMBPCG and MCOMMAFS; IBO-06 under MCOMFT and MCOMBPCG. An unfamiliar programme header on your downloaded paper does not mean you have the wrong file.

Three hours across five answers leaves roughly thirty-two minutes each. In IBO-01 the arithmetic differs: Part A’s four comments should take about forty minutes together, leaving forty minutes each for the four Part B essays. The book’s seven blueprints per paper exist precisely because Part A and Part B need different frames.

The marks logic differs sharply. In IBO-01 Part A, open by agreeing or disagreeing, then defend with one theory and one example. In IBO-01 Part B, name the theory or instrument, its author or year where there is one, then evaluate. In IBO-06, define the institution or instrument, distinguish it from its nearest neighbour, and where a rate or exposure is asked for, compute it and state the unit.

Assignments for IBO-01 and IBO-06 run on a separate track and gate your eligibility to sit; Semester 4 follows the even-semester window, an assignment submission date 15 October for a July session and 15 March for a January one, 15 October for a July session and 15 March for a January one. Nobody should buy a revision volume covering 12 examinable credits of IBO-01 and IBO-06 on a description alone. These three tools cover what M.Com Semester 4 learners search for — previous year question papers, guess papers and most repeated questions — and all three run free in your browser across both codes, with no account and nothing stored. The first routes to IGNOU’s own listings for the December 2025, June 2025 and December 2024 sittings. The other two run on the 48 rated topics taken from inside this volume, 24 to a paper, and the practice generator produces the correct structure for each code rather than one shape for both. What none of them gives you is the part that took longest to build: the 100 model answers, the 14 blueprints, the IBO-06 formula table and the definitions bank.

When we looked at IGNOU’s index on 11 August 2026 it held three sittings for these codes: December 2025, June 2025 and December 2024. June 2026 had not appeared, so it cannot be listed. This assembles a practice paper in the structure that code actually uses — a Part A comment block plus four Part B essays for IBO-01, five twenty-mark questions for IBO-06 — drawn from that paper’s own 24 rated topics and weighted towards the three-star band. Written against a three-hour clock it becomes a self-test rather than a reading exercise, which is how the volume’s own 40-question self-test, twenty per paper, is meant to be used. Tool 3 — Most Repeated Questions and High Probability Topic Analysis

This lays out the whole frequency picture for one paper: all 24 rated topics, each band, each B1 to B4 reference, the share sitting in the top band, and ready question stems paired with the verb that subject uses. It is what an MCOM important questions list looks like when it comes from 48 rated topics across B1 to B4 rather than guesswork, and it reads differently for IBO-06 at 22 three-star topics than for IBO-01 at 20.

Using the Study Guide Across a Semester, a Week, or a Final 48 Hours

With only IBO-01 and IBO-06 to sit, the temptation is to relax; with 42 of the 48 rated topics at three stars, that is the trap. The volume carries a six-row ladder telling you what to open at 48, 24, 12, 6, 3 and 1 hour remaining, plus a 48-hour plan split into 12 timed blocks, six on each day — one paper per day, which the four-subject volumes could never afford.

Given a full semester, remember that MCOP-001 is competing for the same hours as these 12 examinable credits. Read the official blocks paper by paper, use the heatmaps as checkpoints, and keep MCOP-001 on its own schedule rather than letting it eat the fortnight before the papers. As each block closes, turn to that subject’s heatmap and test whether every three-star topic in it yields an answer. Where one does not, the relevant B1 to B4 block is the place to go back to, not this volume.

Given 48 hours, the plan gives day one entirely to IBO-01 across Sections A to F, closing on its capsule and the first fifty golden facts, and day two entirely to IBO-06 with its formula table worked by hand, then the 40-question self-test closed-book, the answer key with patching from Section E, and the second fifty golden facts. One paper a day is the whole advantage of a 12-credit semester over a 22-credit one, and the 12-block plan spends it deliberately.

Given a single hour, the ladder is blunt: Boxes 1, 2 and 4 of each Section F plus a fast pass over the 100 golden facts, and nothing you have not already met. The volume states outright that new material introduced inside the last twelve hours lowers scores.

Whichever of the six ladder rows applies, the rule holds: stay with a single guide. M.Com learners who pair the official blocks with a single revision volume finish; those who stack downloaded PDFs and a second publisher’s IBO-06 book on top rarely get through even the 42 three-star topics across B1 to B4. If summaries are wanted beside the IBO-01 and IBO-06 blocks, keep to a single supplement; the study notes page will do. Soft Copy or Hard Copy? The Same Pages, a Different Way of Working

Both formats hold identical content across IBO-01’s 24 rated topics and IBO-06’s 24 at the same ₹249. Neither is better in the abstract; here the decision turns on whether you intend to work IBO-06’s rate calculations by hand.

The rule most M.Com learners settle on: take print, because IBO-01 asks you to write five-mark comments to length and IBO-06 asks you to compute rates, and both are hand skills. Take the PDF only if revision happens in fragments away from a desk and you have already practised both on paper. Where a term end examination is imminent and delivery to your area is slow, the choice makes itself.

Four pieces of information decide the whole exchange, so open with them: your programme — M.Com, MCOMFT, MCOMBPCG, MCOMMAFS or the online MCOMOL variant — your codes read off the admission record rather than memory, your sitting, and format plus pin code. Programme matters more here than anywhere else in the series, because IGNOU records IBO-01 against MCOM, PGDIBO, MCOMBPCG and MCOMMAFS, while IBO-06 is recorded against MCOM, PGDIBO, MCOMFT and MCOMBPCG. The two lists overlap but are not the same, and the code check resolves it in one message.

Codes, titles and credit values were checked against the IGNOU Common Prospectus for July 2026, which lists this semester as IBO-01 at 6 credits, IBO-06 at 6 and MCOP 001 Project at 6, and records M.Com overall as an 80 credits four semesters programme under the School of Management Studies, English and Hindi media, two years minimum and four maximum. That the book covers 12 of the semester’s 18 credits is stated plainly above rather than glossed, because the missing six belong to a project with no written paper.

Examination format details come from real IGNOU-hosted question paper PDFs for IBO-06 across four sittings and from published IBO-01 papers including December 2025 and December 2021. IBO-01’s Part A and Part B split and IBO-06’s five-of-N shape genuinely differ, and both are reported as found rather than merged into one description of the term end examination. We did not open both codes in all three sittings, which is why this page tells you to read the instructions printed on your own paper.

The sittings offered by the finder were checked against IGNOU’s published index on 11 August 2026, which lists exactly three: December 2025, June 2025 and December 2024. The December 2025 listing was fetched and parsed in full, and both IBO codes appear in it. The June 2025 and December 2024 listings appear on the index but we did not parse either code by code, and the finder states that on screen. No direct file path has been built for anything we did not open ourselves; the tool returns listings only.

No grade, result or paper content is forecast anywhere above for IBO-01 or IBO-06.
