If a code returns nothing, check that it is a course code and not a programme code such as BAG, MBA or MCOM, since programme codes do not appear in the schedule. A missing code can also mean the paper belongs to a practical, project or laboratory schedule that IGNOU releases separately, or that the code was withdrawn for this session. In those cases the exam centre instructions and the Regional Centre are the correct next step.

A date sheet is only the first item in the December 2026 examination chain. Four more steps follow it, and each one has its own deadline. The tracker below shows what IGNOU has already released and what learners are still waiting for.

The schedule

When Do the IGNOU December 2026 Exams Start and End?

The first papers are held on Wednesday, 25 November 2026. The last dated papers in the tentative schedule fall on Wednesday, 13 January 2027. That is a 50-day window containing 41 actual examination days.

Nine days inside the window carry no papers at all: seven Sundays, plus 25 December 2026 and 1 January 2027. Learners who assume the exams run continuously often plan revision badly, because the real calendar hands them scattered rest days rather than a solid block at the end.

How to read it

How Do You Find Your Own Paper on the December 2026 Date Sheet?

The date sheet is organised by date, then by session, then by a long run of course codes. It is not organised by programme, which is where most learners lose time. A BAG student and an MCOM student can sit the same morning in the same hall for entirely different papers.

1. Open the official PDF, not a screenshotDownload the tentative December 2026 date sheet from ignou.ac.in. Forwarded images on social media are often from an older session.
2. List your course codes firstWrite down every code you intend to appear in, for example MMPC-001 or BEGC-131. Use course codes, never the programme code such as MBA or BAG.
3. Search the PDF for each codeUse the find function. Codes appear without hyphens in the schedule, so search MMPC001 rather than MMPC-001 if the first attempt fails.
4. Note the date and the sessionRecord whether the code sits in the morning column or the evening column. Two of your papers can share a date and still be hours apart.
5. Check for backlog and practical papersBacklog courses from earlier years follow the same schedule. Practical and project examinations run on separate schedules issued later, and library science practicals are arranged by the Regional Centre.
6. Keep your own copyThe notice states plainly that the University does not retain any date sheet for any purpose. Save the PDF and print one page with your own dates on it.

Clashes

What Happens If Two December 2026 Papers Fall at the Same Time?

This is the single most useful part of the notice, and the part almost no summary explains properly. IGNOU has stated in advance that it will refuse most clash complaints. A learner who writes in for the wrong reason simply loses the window.

The university will not consider a change of date or session in four situations: when the courses sit in the same examination group (Group 1 to Group 6, and the equivalent CBCS and FYUP discipline groups, which are deliberately scheduled together); when the clashing papers are backlog courses from different years; when the papers belong to different programmes; and, in MP programmes, when the papers come from different specialisations.

Discipline grouping catches out a lot of CBCS and four-year undergraduate learners. The disciplines are split into five groups, and a learner may pick only one discipline per group. Choosing English from Group 1 rules out Hindi, Urdu and Sanskrit for that learner. Papers inside the same group therefore share a slot by design, and no request will move them.

If the clash falls outside those four categories, a report is genuinely worth sending. Email datesheet@ignou.ac.in on or before 29 August 2026 in the exact format the notice prescribes.

In practice, BK Sahni has guided 5,00,000 students till date, and the most common reason a clash email fails is not the format at all: learners write in about two backlog papers from different years, which the notice has already excluded. Reading the four exclusions before writing saves the effort.

Paper pattern

Which December 2026 Papers Use MCQ or OMR Sheets?

Most IGNOU papers are descriptive, but the notice names a small set that will be objective type on OMR sheets. Learners in these courses should practise timing rather than answer length.

• BDP, BTS, BCA and BSW: BSHF-101 and FST-01
• CLIS: BLI-011, BLII-012, BLII-013 and BLII-014
• CBS, DVAPFV, DDT, DMT and DWM: PCO-1
• CBCS bachelor and honours degree programmes: BEVAE-181 and BSSS-183

Two exceptions run the other way. BNS-041 and BNS-042 are confirmed as descriptive type. Separately, MPH-002 with MPH-003, and MPH-013 with MPH-014, are held together in a single three-hour sitting with separate question papers and separate answer scripts, giving each course 1 hour 30 minutes. Learners in the MARD, CRD and PGDRD family may also write their scripts in Bengali for the listed rural development courses.

What comes next

Exam Form, Assignments and Hall Ticket: What Still Has to Happen?

A date sheet does not register anyone for an exam. The notice repeats the four conditions from the IGNOU Common Prospectus that decide whether a learner may sit the December 2026 TEE at all: registration for the course must be valid and not time barred, the required assignments must have been submitted by the due date, the minimum programme duration must be complete, and the examination fee must be paid. If any condition fails, the university may withhold the result for those courses.

The examination form has to be filled fresh for every session, and only online. The December 2026 portal has not opened yet, so any exam-form deadline circulating today is guesswork. Learners can prepare in the meantime by reading how the IGNOU examination form is filled and by clearing their pending IGNOU assignment work, since assignment submission is what unlocks exam eligibility in the first place. Those still finishing a dissertation should also track the project submission last date for December 2026, which runs on its own notification.

Examination fee once paid is neither refundable nor adjustable, even if the learner does not appear. Closer to the exams, no admit card is posted to anyone: hall tickets are uploaded to the university website 7 to 10 days before the examinations commence, and learners must carry a printout along with a valid IGNOU identity card. Revision plan

How Should You Turn the Date Sheet Into a Revision Plan?

The date sheet is most valuable as a planning document. Counting backwards from 25 November 2026, a learner reading this in late August has roughly 13 weeks. That is enough time to work through blocks properly rather than cram, provided the order of revision follows the order of the papers.

A workable method is simple. Sort the course codes by exam date, not by difficulty or by interest. Give the earliest papers the earliest weeks. Reserve the scattered Sundays and the 25 December and 1 January gaps for the papers sitting late in the window, because those breaks are the only real buffer the calendar offers. Read one full block from the official material, then move to expected questions, then to previous papers under a three-hour timer.

For source material, the official blocks are free to read on the eGyanKosh digital library, and IGNOU hosts them directly at egyankosh.ac.in. Where the blocks are too long to finish before an early paper, condensed IGNOU study notes cover the same units in far less reading time, and subject-wise help books carry unit summaries with model answers. Once the reading is done, IGNOU guess papers point at the questions that repeat, and solved previous-year question papers show the expected answer length for 5, 10 and 20 mark questions. Assignments still carry 30 per cent of the course result, so lifting that component with well-structured solved assignments improves the grade before the exam hall is even reached.

After the papers are written, the same planning discipline applies to the outcome. Marks appear in phases on the IGNOU result pages, assignment scores surface separately on the assignment result and grade card page, and a paper that looks under-marked can go for revaluation within the prescribed window.

What Are Other Websites Getting Wrong About This Date Sheet?

Several education portals published December 2026 exam dates before the notice appeared, and those figures are still circulating. Three claims are worth correcting, because a learner who plans around them will misjudge the start of the session by weeks.

The date sheet is also labelled tentative for a reason. In the June 2026 cycle IGNOU issued a revised date sheet on 12 May 2026, then a hall ticket notification on 22 May 2026, and separate revised schedules for E-Vidya Bharti and Guyana (GOAL) learners. A December 2026 revision is therefore possible, and the version a learner downloads in November matters more than the one downloaded today.
