MAEG Papers in December 2026: First Date, Last Date and the MEG-01 Clash

The date sheet itself is on IGNOU’s December 2026 tentative date sheet PDF. IGNOU asked for discrepancy reports by email to datesheet@ignou.ac.in by 20 September 2026, so a revised sheet can still follow. Year I learners start later than Year II learners: MEG-05, the compulsory first-year course, sits on Saturday 12 December 2026. The site’s own December 2026 date sheet finder searches every programme, and the two daily slots are explained on the IGNOU exam timing guide.

All 19 MEG codes appear on the sheet. Eighteen of them take the evening slot. The exception is MEG-13, Writing from the Margins, placed in the 10 AM to 1 PM slot on 26 December 2026. Slots are read from the column order of the PDF, so check the time printed on your hall ticket.

Clashes and Back-to-Back Runs

One clash is built into the sheet. MEG-01 British Poetry, a Year I course, and MEG-19 Australian Novel, a Year II course, are both on Saturday 2 January 2027 in the 2 PM to 5 PM slot. A learner who is clearing MEG-01 as a backlog while sitting MEG-19 in the second year cannot write both. IGNOU’s date sheet states that clash requests are not considered for backlog courses from different years, so the practical step is to plan which of the two to sit in December and which to carry to June 2027.

The four-day run from 28 December is the one to plan around. A Year II learner with MEG-14, MEG-15, MEG-16 and MEG-17 has no gap at all, so those four need to be revised before Christmas rather than between papers. Why the Three-Hour MEG Script Outweighs Your Assignment

The term-end examination carries 70 per cent of the final course result and assignments carry the remaining 30 per cent. That is IGNOU’s general split for taught courses. None of the thirteen MEG papers reviewed prints a weightage line of its own, unlike some other programmes’ papers, so the MAEG Programme Guide is the document to confirm it in. The July 2026 Common Prospectus section on MAEG does not print a pass mark either, and this page does not state one.

The assignment still matters because it is a gate. The MEG-05 assignment booklet for the July 2025 and January 2026 sessions tells learners to submit before they can appear for the term-end examination, with 31 March 2026 and 30 September 2026 as its two due dates. Once it is in, each 8-credit MEG course rests mainly on one three-hour script. MAEG is examined year-wise, so a Year I learner sits five of these scripts in one cycle, all worth the same 8 credits.

Guess Paper, Previous Year Paper or Solved Paper for MA English

A guess paper is a revision set of important and recurring questions for one course code, such as MEG-05, with model answers, prepared by a publisher from past papers and the syllabus. Learners also call it a set of important questions, expected questions or a model paper; the product is the same. A previous year question paper is the actual paper IGNOU set in an earlier term-end examination, free on IGNOU’s archive. A solved question paper is that actual paper with a publisher’s model answers.

All 19 MEG Course Codes and How Each Paper Is Set

MAEG has 19 courses of 8 credits each, and a learner completes ten of them for 80 credits: MEG-05 plus any four in Year I, then any five in Year II. That is the structure in section 3.8 of the July 2026 Common Prospectus, where the programme is listed as Master of Arts (English), School of Humanities. Paper Format of the Four Reviewed Codes

The December 2025 MEG-05 paper is 3 hours and 100 marks: seven questions, any five answered in about 500 words each, 20 marks apiece, with short notes offered as Question 7. Three other codes follow different rules. MEG-02 and MEG-15 open with a compulsory reference-to-context question, and MEG-03 simply gives one question per novel.

Eight printed pages make the December 2025 MEG-15 paper look like a two-language paper, when most MEG papers run to three. It is not one: the length comes from eight passages in Question 1, all in English.

Titles and Codes That Do Not Match

Themes That Came Back in MEG-05, MEG-02 and MEG-03

Four themes appeared in every one of the four MEG-05 papers from December 2023 to December 2025: Plato and Aristotle on imitation, Wordsworth and Coleridge on poetry, feminist criticism, and Indian aesthetics such as rasa, dhvani or sruti. In MEG-03, all four papers from June 2022 to December 2025 asked one question on each of the nine prescribed novels. Nothing here says which question will be set in December 2026.

MEG-05 Literary Criticism and Theory

The four MEG-05 papers reviewed are the MEG-05 paper of December 2023, the MEG-05 paper of June 2024, the MEG-05 paper of June 2025 and the MEG-05 paper of December 2025. Each cell below gives the question number where the theme appeared.

MEG-02 British Drama

MEG-02 is the steadiest paper of the three. The British Drama paper of December 2023, its June 2024 successor, the June 2025 MEG-02 paper and the December 2025 MEG-02 paper all open with a compulsory Question 1: comment on four of five passages with reference to the context, 5 marks each. One thing did change. The two papers before 2025 had eight questions and no short notes; the two 2025 papers had seven, ending with short notes on two of four topics.

For Question 1 the useful skill is recognising a passage quickly: name the play, the speaker and the moment, then say why the lines matter, inside 150 words. Doctor Faustus and Pygmalion supplied passages in more than one paper, so reading their key speeches aloud is time well spent.

MEG-03 British Novel

Every MEG-03 paper reviewed, from the June 2022 British Novel paper through the June 2023 MEG-03 paper and the December 2023 MEG-03 paper to the December 2025 British Novel paper, has nine questions, one on each prescribed novel, in the same order from Tom Jones to The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. The learner answers any five. The angle changes every time: Great Expectations has been asked about its title, its idea of respectability, self-improvement and its fairytale plot.

The practical reading: a MEG-03 learner who prepares six novels well has a spare choice on the day, and one who prepares four has none.

How the Counts Were Made

The counts come from twelve IGNOU term-end papers, four each for MEG-05, MEG-02 and MEG-03, from June 2022 to December 2025, each reviewed in full by ignouproject.com on 20 September 2026, plus the December 2025 MEG-15 paper for its format. Matching a question to a theme is a judgement, not a word search: “Coleridge’s idea of a good poet” and “Wordsworth’s subjective elements” are both counted under Wordsworth and Coleridge. The theme tables cover MEG-05, MEG-02 and MEG-03; for other codes, the format is confirmed against the latest IGNOU paper on WhatsApp. A count is a record of the past four papers, never a forecast.

IGNOU’s own papers also carry small slips worth knowing so they do not throw you in the hall. The June 2025 MEG-05 paper prints “Platonian”, the June 2024 paper prints “instructuve”, and the December 2023 paper names Elaine Showalter’s essay “Feminine Criticism in the Wilderness”, where her title is “Feminist Criticism in the Wilderness”. Answer the question IGNOU plainly meant.

How a MEG Revision Set Is Put Together

1. Code first. The MEG code you send is checked against the July 2026 Common Prospectus list, so a set is never built for a code you are not sitting.
2. Latest format. The most recent IGNOU paper for that code fixes the shape of the set: five answers from seven for MEG-05, a passage question plus four essays for MEG-02, one question per novel for MEG-03.
3. Recurring themes, then the rest. Themes seen across past papers are covered first, followed by the blocks that have not appeared lately, so a set is not a list of repeats.
4. Answers written to time. Each model answer is sized for about 34 minutes of writing, with an introduction, a line of argument, textual examples and a short conclusion.
5. Confirmed before payment. The code, the target session and the English medium are confirmed on WhatsApp before you pay.

Downloading IGNOU’s Own MEG Papers and the Date Sheet

IGNOU publishes its past papers free, session by session. On ignou.ac.in, open Student Services, then Downloads, then Previous Year Question Papers, and pick the session; the June 2025 session list shows what one looks like, with all 19 MEG files. Older sessions sit on IGNOU’s webservices archive by school, under SOH and then MEG.

1. Search the session list for the course number, not the full code, because IGNOU files the same course as MEG-1, MEG-01 or MEG-5 in different years.
2. Open the PDF and read the session printed on page 1, “Term-End Examination, December, 2025” for example, before trusting the file name.
3. Start with the newest session, then work back; December 2025 is the latest session IGNOU has published.

Hall Ticket, Result and Revaluation for MEG Courses

Before the first paper, download the hall ticket and match every MEG code and slot on it to the date sheet; the IGNOU hall ticket guide explains the release, and the hall ticket download steps cover login problems. What Else MA English Learners Order Alongside

The 30 per cent side of each MEG course is the assignment. Typed reference answers are in the IGNOU solved assignments range, the course-wise questions are on the MEG assignment page, and learners who want the booklet written by hand use the MEG handwritten assignment service. MAEG has no project, dissertation or practical course in the July 2026 Common Prospectus, so no project service applies to this programme.

Medium and Session: English Only, December 2026

Each set is prepared for the upcoming term-end examination, in every medium IGNOU examines that course in, and the medium for your course code is confirmed on WhatsApp before you pay. For MAEG that medium is English alone. The July 2026 Common Prospectus names English as the medium of instruction, IGNOU’s June 2025 session list carries no Hindi or regional MEG file, and all thirteen MEG papers reviewed are English only, so no Hindi MEG set is offered.

The session is December 2026. A set ordered now targets that examination; once IGNOU issues the June 2027 date sheet, sets move to the June 2027 cycle.

The rate is ₹49 per subject code for a solved guess paper as a PDF, or ₹100 per subject code as a printed copy. Printed copies carry a one-time courier charge of ₹100 per order, whatever the number of subject codes; the PDF has no courier charge. The PDF is shared on WhatsApp once payment is confirmed. A printed copy is dispatched the next day after payment is confirmed, and the courier details are shared on WhatsApp. No arrival date is promised, because transit time depends on the courier and your location. There is no minimum order: one subject or ten, same rate per format.
