When Do MAEG Term-End Papers Start This Session?

IGNOU’s tentative date sheet for the December 2026 term-end examination, dated 19 August 2026, opens on 25 November 2026. MAEG is examined year-wise, so each MEG paper you registered for sits on its own date inside that window, and you find it by course code rather than by programme code.

A date sheet decides how many days you have; the block count decides how much reading those days must hold. The next section puts numbers on that.

How Many Study Hours Does a MAEG Year Carry?

One MAEG year carries 1,200 hours of official study. IGNOU’s Common Prospectus for July 2026 counts one credit as 30 hours of learner study, so a 4-credit course carries 120 hours and a 6-credit course 180 hours. Every MEG course is worth 8 credits, which puts each one at 240 hours, and a year of five courses at 40 credits.

Here is the arithmetic for a learner who takes MEG-05 with MEG-01, MEG-02, MEG-03 and MEG-07 in Year I. Five courses at 240 hours each give 1,200 hours. Spread across 300 days of study, that is four hours a day, every day, before a single assignment is written.

The block count makes the load uneven. IGNOU issues printed study material either as a single book of blocks and units or as separate blocks for every course, on an average one block per credit, and a block usually comprises 3 to 5 units. By that rule an 8-credit MEG course should hold about eight blocks. It does not always:

Same credit value, three extra blocks between the lightest and the heaviest. A Year I learner who picks MEG-01 and MEG-03 is reading 19 blocks for two courses; one who picks lighter electives reads fewer. The hours stay 240 per course either way, because IGNOU sets them by credit, not by block.

Official MEG Blocks, a Guide Book or a Free PDF: Which Does an English Learner Need?

The official MEG blocks come first, because IGNOU sets all 19 MEG papers from them. Official study material, which IGNOU calls self-learning material (SLM), is the university’s own course content for each MEG code, issued in blocks that usually hold 3 to 5 units each, posted to the learner unless digital material was chosen at admission, and open to everyone on eGyanKosh. A help book or guide book is an independent publisher’s revision volume that condenses the same syllabus for the term-end examination; it is not an IGNOU publication. A free PDF is legitimate only when it is IGNOU’s own material, taken from egyankosh.ac.in or the IGNOU e-Content app.

For an MA English learner the choice is sharper than in most programmes. MEG papers set essay questions on named novels, plays and critics, and IGNOU’s December 2025 MEG-05 paper asks for any five answers of about 500 words each. No condensed book replaces reading the primary text and the official unit on it. A guide book earns its place later, when the question is how to shape five long answers in three hours.

Anyone searching for an IGNOU MEG books pdf free download needs only IGNOU’s own files: eGyanKosh keeps the MEG material in its Master of Arts (English) collection, and the course-by-course download routes are set out on the IGNOU books download page. Official study material is linked here only at egyankosh.ac.in, and this page does not host or redistribute IGNOU’s files. Other sites that repackage MEG blocks into combined files cannot show which edition they copied, which is reason enough to stay with the official repository.

One MEG course book covers one course code, and the twelve points below are what that means for an MA English learner.

MEG Codes, Titles, Credits and the Course Book for Each

MAEG, described on the IGNOU MA English programme page, lists 19 MEG courses, each worth 8 credits and 240 study hours, and every one of them has a complete course book. The table follows the order of the July 2026 Common Prospectus: the compulsory MEG-05 and eight electives offered in Year I, then ten electives offered in Year II. A learner registers ten of the nineteen, 40 credits a year, for the 80-credit degree.

The credit check holds: five courses of 8 credits make 40 credits in Year I, five more make 40 in Year II, and the total is the 80 credits the prospectus states for the degree. Each course book in the last column is sold at ₹249 as a hard copy or ₹99 as a soft copy, with one fixed ₹100 delivery charge on a hard-copy order. The “Also used in” column shows which IGNOU postgraduate diplomas register the same code; the prospectus lets a learner who completes one of those diplomas enter MA (English) laterally, which is why one MEG book can serve two programmes.

Year One and Year Two: Picking the Ten MEG Books You Will Actually Sit

You need 10 course books across the degree, five a year, and which ten depends on your electives. Four electives from eight give 70 possible Year I sets; five from ten give 252 possible Year II sets. That is 17,640 ways to complete MAEG, which is why no single “MA English book set” can be right for everyone.

Year I: MEG-05 Plus Four of Eight

1. Start with MEG-05. It is the only compulsory course in the programme and the only book every learner needs.
2. Pick four from MEG-01, MEG-02, MEG-03, MEG-06, MEG-07, MEG-08, MEG-09 and MEG-12. A British period spread comes from MEG-01, MEG-02 and MEG-03; Indian writing and the new literatures sit in MEG-07, MEG-08, MEG-09 and MEG-12, and American writing starts with MEG-06.
3. Check the four against your admission record before ordering anything. Learners have written online that they registered Year II codes at their first admission without realising it; a book order built on that list repeats the error.
4. Order five course books, one per code, in English.

Year II: Any Five of Ten

1. Choose five from MEG-04, MEG-10, MEG-11, MEG-13, MEG-14, MEG-15, MEG-16, MEG-17, MEG-18 and MEG-19. None is compulsory in the current structure.
2. Confirm the five at re-registration; the codes on your re-registration record are the ones you will sit.
3. If a friend in an earlier batch passes on Year II books, compare codes, not titles: a list built on the older structure may treat MEG-04 or MEG-15 as compulsory.
4. Order five course books for the year, or only the codes where the official blocks are hardest going for you.

MAEG is examined year-wise, and every MEG code in both years is available as a complete course book in English.

Where the Official MA English Books Come From, and What to Do When They Do Not Arrive

IGNOU posts the printed MEG blocks to each learner; when they have not come, the official route runs through the status page and then MPDD. Work through it in order:

1. Check dispatch. The dispatch status of printed material is checked on the official study material status page linked from ignou.ac.in. The July 2026 prospectus gives one address for it: IGNOU study material status. Other status links circulate online; use the one IGNOU prints. You need your enrolment number, which the enrolment number guide helps you find.
2. Write to MPDD. Non-receipt of printed study material is taken up with the Registrar, Material Production and Distribution Division (MPDD), IGNOU, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi 110068, at mpdd@ignou.ac.in. The prospectus also lists 011-29572008 and 29572012. A written grievance can go through IGNOU’s iGRAM portal.
3. Read online meanwhile. eGyanKosh, at egyankosh.ac.in, is IGNOU’s free digital repository of self-learning material. For MEG it holds a single MEG full-content download as well as the unit-by-unit files, and the MEG programme guide. 4. Use the app. The IGNOU e-Content Mobile App is the university’s official app for digitised course material, listed in section 1.21 of the prospectus.
5. Know the digital option. Section 14.13 of the July 2026 prospectus sets the rule. A learner who opts for the soft copy of the self-learning material in the online admission form receives a 15 per cent concession on the programme fee and is not sent printed material. If that box was ticked, no MEG parcel is coming.
6. Changing an elective. IGNOU allows a change of elective within 30 days of receiving the first set of course material; for a Master’s course of 6 or 8 credits the fee is Rs. 1,200, so every MEG swap costs that amount. Change the book order only after the new code shows on your record.

IGNOU’s prospectus states that the university “shall not be held responsible” if material it has sent does not reach a learner, and it promises no dispatch timeline. Reading on eGyanKosh from the first week protects your preparation whatever the post does.

English Only, Two Programme Codes and Five Ways to Print a MEG Code

MAEG is an English-medium programme, and nothing in the July 2026 prospectus offers it in Hindi. The Medium column of the prospectus summary list names English alone for MAEG, so the official blocks and the course books are English editions. The complete course book is prepared in each medium IGNOU offers for the programme, and your medium is confirmed with your course codes on WhatsApp.

Programme code. MAEG is the current code for Master of Arts (English); MEG is the older code still used by eGyanKosh, by course codes and by many papers, and MEGOL is the online-mode version of the same degree. One example: a June 2023 MEGOL paper for British Novel divides the paper into three sections of short, medium and long answers, while regular MEG papers ask for any five answers of 20 marks, so an online-mode learner should read the solved papers with that difference in mind.

Code styles. The same course appears as MEG 05 in the prospectus table, MEG-5 in its notes, MEG-05 on eGyanKosh, and MEG-005 on IGNOU’s December 2024 question paper. All four are one course. When you send codes for a book check, any of these spellings works.

Edition. Recent MEG papers carry the code in both two-digit and three-digit form, and the titles drift as the conflict box above shows. Use the prospectus title on assignments and examination forms, and keep your year’s codes current at IGNOU re-registration before ordering Year II books.

Two Free MAEG Tools for Electives, Hours and Official Routes

PDF or Printed MEG Course Book: Which Suits How You Read?

Each course book costs ₹249 as a hard copy and ₹99 as a soft copy (PDF), and a learner orders only the course codes needed. A hard-copy order carries one fixed delivery charge of ₹100, however many books it contains. For a full MAEG year of five books, that is 5 × ₹249 + ₹100 = ₹1,345 printed, or 5 × ₹99 = ₹495 as PDFs.

Course books prepare the term-end paper; assignments, past papers and guess papers each have their own page.
