IGNOU MAPS Books: Ten Revised MPS Codes, and the Earlier MPS Papers Due This December
IGNOU’s December 2026 date sheet sets no paper for MPS-101 to MPS-110, while 24 papers of the earlier MPS structure run from 7 December 2026 to 8 January 2027.
- MPS-101 to MPS-110
- 80 credits stated
- English and Hindi
- School of Social Sciences
- MPSE electives covered
- Codes matched before payment
Revised MPS-1xx codes and earlier MPS or MPSE codes are both accepted, and each is matched to IGNOU’s list before you pay.
Quick answer. The ten Year I courses of IGNOU’s revised MA in Political Science, MPS-101 to MPS-110, are what IGNOU MAPS books cover: the university’s own self-learning blocks. IGNOU prints and posts them unless a learner chose digital material at admission, and the same blocks are free on eGyanKosh. The July 2026 Common Prospectus states 80 credits for MAPS but prints only the 40 credits of Semesters I and II, ten courses of 4 credits each, in English and Hindi medium. No MPS-101 to MPS-110 paper appears in IGNOU’s December 2026 date sheet; the political science papers of that session belong to learners on the earlier MPS structure, from MPSE-001 on 7 December 2026 to MPS-004 on 8 January 2027. A complete course book is prepared for every one of these codes in both media, at ₹249 per book as a hard copy or ₹99 per book as a soft copy, with one fixed ₹100 delivery charge on a hard-copy order, and every order is placed on WhatsApp.
Which MPS Papers Sit in the December 2026 Term-End Examination?
No revised MAPS course has a paper in IGNOU’s December 2026 term-end examination (TEE). Every political science paper in that session carries an earlier MPS code: MPS-001 to MPS-004 in Year I, or an MPSE, MED, MGP or MGPE elective in Year II. The tentative date sheet dated 21 September 2026 runs the session from 25 November 2026 to 13 January 2027, and its programme list prints MPS, not MAPS. Look up any paper on the December 2026 date sheet by course code, and keep the hall ticket download steps ready for the week before your first paper.
Two cohorts, two calendars.
Revised MAPS, MPS-101 to MPS-110. IGNOU’s MPS-102 assignment booklet for the July 2026 session sets 31 March 2027 as the submission date. IGNOU has not yet published the date sheet for the session after that.
Earlier MPS structure. The first paper is MPSE-001 on 7 December 2026. MPS-003 follows on 31 December, then MPS-001 on 4 January, MPS-002 on 6 January and MPS-004 on 8 January 2027.
A tentative date sheet can change. Recheck each date against IGNOU’s latest version and your hall ticket before fixing a reading plan.
How Many Study Hours Do the MAPS Blocks Ask For?
The ten revised MAPS courses of Year I ask for 1,200 hours of official study, because MPS-101 to MPS-110 carry 4 credits each and the prospectus converts every credit into 30 hours. IGNOU’s Common Prospectus for July 2026 counts one credit as 30 hours of learner study, so a 4-credit course carries 120 hours and a 6-credit course 180 hours. Each MPS course therefore carries 120 hours. The earlier MPS structure is heavier per paper: IGNOU’s MPS programme page puts 32 compulsory credits in Year I and 32 optional credits in Year II, which is 960 hours a year.
IGNOU issues printed study material either as a single book of blocks and units or as separate blocks for every course, on an average one block per credit, and a block usually comprises 3 to 5 units. For a 4-credit MPS course that average points to about four blocks. MPS-102 is the one revised course whose blocks were found on eGyanKosh on 28 September 2026: Block 1 on constitutional development, Block 2 on governance and institutions, and Block 3 on Indian federalism, which runs to Unit 12 on local governments.
Read against the calendar, the load looks like this:
- 28 September to 7 December 2026, 70 days. A Year II MPS learner with eight electives faces 960 hours before the MPSE-001 paper, about 13.7 hours a day for a single reading.
- 7 December 2026 to 8 January 2027. The 24 earlier-structure papers are spread across 33 days, so a learner with papers from both years still to clear sits them in three separate weeks.
- By 31 March 2027. Revised MAPS learners of the July 2026 session submit their assignments, which IGNOU requires before the term-end examination.
- The next date sheet. IGNOU has not yet announced when MPS-101 to MPS-110 are first examined, so the planner below uses a labelled planning date for them.
That arithmetic is why a revision book matters most to the earlier cohort this term. The revised cohort has months, not weeks.
Official MPS Blocks, a Help Book or a Free PDF: Which Serves Your Paper?
IGNOU writes every term-end paper for the ten MAPS codes and the 24 earlier MPS codes from its own self-learning material, so the official blocks are the first book for each. Self-learning material (SLM) means IGNOU’s own course text, bound as blocks of usually 3 to 5 units, posted to each learner who did not opt for digital copies and open to anyone on eGyanKosh, as section 1.11 of the July 2026 Common Prospectus describes it.
A help book, also called a guide book, is an independent publisher’s revision volume that condenses one course’s syllabus for the term-end examination, such as MPS-102 or MPSE-004; it is not an IGNOU publication and IGNOU does not examine from it. A free PDF is legitimate only when it is IGNOU’s own material from egyankosh.ac.in or the IGNOU e-Content app. eGyanKosh, at egyankosh.ac.in, is IGNOU’s free digital repository of self-learning material.
| Question | Official SLM | Help book | Free PDF |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who publishes it | IGNOU, School of Social Sciences | An independent publisher | IGNOU, through eGyanKosh or the e-Content app |
| What it costs | Included in the programme fee | ₹249 hard copy with ₹100 delivery per order, or ₹99 soft copy, per book here | Nothing |
| What it is for | Learning the full course | Revision after the blocks | Reading the blocks on screen |
| When it helps | From admission onward | The final weeks before a paper | When print is late or digital was chosen |
| Does IGNOU examine from it | Yes | No | Yes, it is the same SLM |
| Where to get it | Posted by IGNOU | WhatsApp order, codes checked first | egyankosh.ac.in only |

The earlier-structure blocks are complete on eGyanKosh, starting with the official MPS-001 Political Theory collection. For the wider catalogue of official files, see IGNOU’s free official PDFs listed course by course. If the question is what a revision volume adds, the page on what IGNOU help books cover explains it, and guide books set beside the official blocks compares formats. Short topic summaries are a different product, described under IGNOU revision notes. Official study material is linked here only at egyankosh.ac.in, and this page does not host or redistribute IGNOU’s files.
A help book from any publisher is worth checking on four points before money changes hands. First come the cover codes: MPS-101 style for MAPS, MPS-001 and MPSE style for the earlier structure. The medium must match your registration. The edition should postdate the syllabus it claims to cover. And any promise of marks or of which questions will appear is a reason to walk away, because no publisher can make it.
What a complete course book adds for these codes:
One book per code. MPS-101 and MPS-106 both begin with the words Political Theory, yet they are separate courses and separate books.
Indian politics in two halves. MPS-102 covers the constitutional framework and institutions; MPS-107 covers processes and dynamics.
International relations split by semester. Approaches sit in MPS-103, contemporary issues in MPS-108.
Comparative politics twice. MPS-104 opens the subject and MPS-109 returns to its debates, one book each.
Research Methodology as theory. MPS-110 is a 4-credit theory paper in Semester II, not a project.
Chapters. Each book’s chapters track one course’s syllabus and are meant for the weeks after the official blocks have been read once.
Solved papers for earlier codes. MPS-001 to MPS-004 and the MPSE electives have past term-end papers, and the latest of them are solved in the book.
Solved papers for revised codes. No term-end paper has yet been set for MPS-101 to MPS-110, so the papers a revised book draws on are confirmed on WhatsApp before payment.
Important questions and answers. Written per code, for the last reading before the paper.
Either medium. The same code is prepared in English and in Hindi, the two media the prospectus lists.
Only the electives you took. A Year II MPS learner orders the eight electives on the record, not all twenty.
Shared electives. MPSE-004 also sits in the MA History and MA Sociology tables, so the same book serves those learners.

MAPS Year I has ten course codes, MPS-101 to MPS-110, each worth 4 credits and 120 official study hours, and each has its own complete course book in English and Hindi. Section 3.18 of the July 2026 Common Prospectus prints them as Semester I and Semester II of 20 credits each.
Each course book costs ₹249 as a hard copy and ₹99 as a soft copy (PDF), and a learner orders only the course codes needed. A hard-copy order carries one fixed delivery charge of ₹100, however many books it contains.

Six disagreements in IGNOU’s MAPS papers, and one of this publisher’s own
Credit total: section 3.18 of the July 2026 Common Prospectus states 80 credits for MAPS but prints only MPS-101 to MPS-110, which add up to 40, and its Total Credits line carries no figure. Semesters III and IV are described, not listed.
Semester or year. Section 3.18 heads the courses Semester I and Semester II, while the prospectus summary table gives MAPS a year-wise mode of examination, and IGNOU’s MPS-102 booklet calls itself a First Year assignment.
Programme name. The same section calls MAPS the revised MPS programme, and the December 2026 date sheet lists MPS among its programmes but not MAPS.
No revised paper yet. The December 2026 date sheet contains no MPS-101 to MPS-110 paper, so there are no previous papers for these codes to solve.
Elective titles. MPSE-011 is printed as The European Union in World Affairs in the prospectus and filed as The European Vision in World Affairs on eGyanKosh. MED-008 appears as Globalisation and Environment in the MA Sociology table and as Globalisation, Environment and Development elsewhere in the prospectus and on eGyanKosh.
Codes used by other universities. Uttarakhand Open University prints papers coded MAPS-102, and Odisha State Open University uses MPS-101 to MPS-104 for its own MA Political Science, so a paper or book carrying those codes is not necessarily IGNOU’s.
This publisher’s own listings. An older marketplace listing for this publisher’s MPS Year I Hindi books promised A+ grades. That promise is withdrawn; no mark, grade or question is promised on this page.
MAPS Semester by Semester, and the Year-Wise MPS Route
MAPS runs five courses in Semester I and five in Semester II, and a book is prepared for each code in English and Hindi. The earlier MPS structure runs by year instead, with its own codes and its own December papers.
Semester I: MPS-101 to MPS-105
Semester I holds MPS-101 Political Theory: Key Concepts, MPS-102 Indian Political System: Constitutional Framework and Institutions, MPS-103 Approaches to International Relations, MPS-104 Comparative Politics and MPS-105 Western Political Thought. All five as hard copies come to 5 × ₹249 + ₹100 = ₹1,345; as soft copies, 5 × ₹99 = ₹495. The complete course book covers one course code with its chapters, the latest previous years’ solved papers and the important questions and answers; the semester-wise Last Minute Exam Guide covers a whole semester at ₹249 with the important questions and answers only. No MAPS semester guide page exists on the site, so the only books priced here are complete course books.
Semester II: MPS-106 to MPS-110
Semester II pairs each Semester I subject with a second course: MPS-106 Political Theory: Contemporary Debates, MPS-107 Indian Political System: Processes and Dynamics, MPS-108 Contemporary Issues in International Relations, MPS-109 Comparative Politics: Issues and Debates, and MPS-110 Research Methodology. Ordering both semesters at once means ten books: ₹2,590 in hard copy with the single ₹100 delivery charge, or ₹990 in soft copy.
Semesters III and IV of MAPS
IGNOU describes the second year as core and elective courses, mostly within political science and a few interdisciplinary courses from other schools, but the July 2026 prospectus does not list their codes. Books for those codes are matched on WhatsApp once they appear on a learner’s re-registration record.
Learners Still on the Year-Wise MPS Structure
A Year I learner on the earlier structure needs four books, MPS-001 to MPS-004: ₹1,096 in hard copy or ₹396 in soft copy. A Year II learner needs the eight electives actually registered, which is ₹2,092 in hard copy or ₹792 in soft copy; choosing MPSE-004 and MPSE-007 gives the same books an MA Sociology learner would use for those codes.
Getting IGNOU’s Own MAPS Material: Dispatch, eGyanKosh and Non-Receipt
IGNOU’s printed MAPS blocks are tracked on the study material status page linked from ignou.ac.in, and material that never arrives is taken up with the Material Production and Distribution Division (MPDD) at Maidan Garhi, New Delhi 110068. The dispatch status of printed material is checked on the official study material status page linked from ignou.ac.in. Non-receipt of printed study material is taken up with the Registrar, Material Production and Distribution Division (MPDD), IGNOU, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi 110068, at mpdd@ignou.ac.in. Third-party pages circulate other status links and dispatch periods; the prospectus lists one route, and no dispatch period is stated here.
| Situation | Official route |
|---|---|
| You want to see whether the parcel has left IGNOU | IGNOU study material status page, with the enrolment number from your enrolment record |
| Printed blocks have not arrived | Write to MPDD at mpdd@ignou.ac.in, and log it on IGNOU’s iGRAM grievance portal |
| You chose digital material at admission | A learner who opts for the soft copy of the self-learning material in the online admission form receives a 15 per cent concession on the programme fee and is not sent printed material. Read the blocks on eGyanKosh or the IGNOU e-Content app. |
| A revised MPS course is missing from eGyanKosh | Check the IGNOU e-Content app, then ask your Regional Centre; the eGyanKosh walkthrough and the alternate Gyankosh route show where files sit |
| You want a different Year II elective | Section 14.14 allows a change within 30 days of receiving the first set of material, at Rs.600 for a 2 or 4 credit course and Rs.1,200 for a 6 or 8 credit course in a Master’s programme |

English or Hindi, Old Codes or New: Matching the Book to Your Registration
IGNOU offers MAPS in English and Hindi medium, per the summary list of programmes in the July 2026 Common Prospectus, and the book follows the medium on your record. The complete course book is prepared in each medium IGNOU offers for the programme, and your medium is confirmed with your course codes on WhatsApp.
MAPS is the programme code and MPS-101 to MPS-110 are its course codes; MPS without the A is the earlier 64-credit programme, whose MPS-001 and MPSE codes are still examined. Which one you are on decides every book you need:
Before the revision: MPS
64 credits per IGNOU’s programme page, 32 compulsory in Year I across MPS-001 to MPS-004 and 32 optional in Year II from the MPSE, MED, MGP and MGPE list. Examined year-wise, with every paper in the December 2026 session.
After the revision: MAPS
80 credits stated, ten 4-credit courses printed for Year I, and a July 2026 assignment booklet due by 31 March 2027. No paper in the December 2026 session.
A book printed with MPS-001 is the wrong book for a MAPS learner, and an MPS-101 book is the wrong book for an MPS learner, even where the subject sounds the same. Elective changes and re-registration choices are made through IGNOU’s re-registration form, and the book list follows whatever that record shows.
Two Free MAPS Tools: Paper Days and Code Routes
The first tool turns a set of MAPS or MPS codes into study hours and days to the paper; the second resolves a single code and tells you where to go when official material is the problem. Neither needs an enrolment number.

Papers From 7 December? Order Your MPS and MPSE Books First
₹249 per book hard copy, ₹99 soft copy; ₹100 delivery per hard-copy order
Order My MPSE Elective BooksMAPS Soft Copy or Hard Copy: Which Format Fits Your Paper Date
A MAPS or MPS learner whose paper is close is better served by the soft copy at ₹99 per book, because it arrives on WhatsApp once the order is confirmed. The hard copy, at ₹249 per book plus ₹100 delivery per order, suits a learner who revises on paper and has a few weeks in hand.
Soft copy, ₹99 per book
It reaches your phone as a PDF once payment is confirmed, and no delivery charge applies. Eight MPS Year II electives come to ₹792.
Hard copy, ₹249 per book plus ₹100 delivery per order
Printed books leave by courier the day after the order, with tracking shared on WhatsApp. One ₹100 charge covers the whole order, so eight electives come to ₹2,092.
Work down this list before choosing:
- Find your first paper date in the tables above; a December MPSE paper leaves less room than a MAPS learner’s next session.
- Count the codes on your record, not the codes in the programme, because a Year II learner takes eight electives out of twenty.
- Decide whether you annotate on paper or read on a phone; that preference matters more than price for a 4-credit course.
- Mixing is allowed: soft copies for the papers due first and hard copies for later ones, in one WhatsApp order.
Other MAPS Resources on This Site
These pages answer the neighbouring questions, one sentence each. Assignment marks for MPS codes appear on the assignment result and status checker. Model answers for MPS assignments, course by course, sit among the solved assignment files. Handwritten answer sets for MAPS codes are covered on the MAPS handwritten assignment page, and the general rules are in the handwritten assignment guide. Topic lists before a paper are on the guess papers hub. IGNOU has digitised its previous question papers up to the December 2025 session at the official question paper archive, and answered versions are on the solved question papers page and the last year paper collection. After results, the percentage calculator and the CGPA calculator convert grades.
What MAPS Learners Ask For Alongside the Books
No project course sits in MAPS Year I, so project questions belong to other programmes and are answered at IGNOU project reports and synopsis and proposal formats. Requests for a combination of books across several programmes are handled the same way as single books: send the codes on WhatsApp and each one is priced per book.
How to Order MAPS Course Books on WhatsApp
Every book order is placed on WhatsApp at +91 93546 37830. The order takes four steps:
- Type the course codes exactly as your IGNOU record prints them, add the medium, and say soft or hard copy.
- Your course codes are checked free before any payment, so a book that does not match your registration is not sold to you.
- Pay the confirmed total: ₹99 per soft copy, or ₹249 per hard copy plus one ₹100 delivery charge for the order.
- The soft copy is sent on WhatsApp after the order is confirmed. The hard copy is dispatched by courier the next day, and the courier details with the tracking ID are sent to you on WhatsApp. No delivery date is promised on this page.
Charges for assignments, projects and other work appear in the site’s price list for other services, and Shri Chakradhar Publication’s own books page introduces the publisher.
How This MAPS Page Was Checked
MAPS Books: Questions Learners Ask Most
IGNOU MAPS learners need the official blocks for the ten Year I codes, MPS-101 to MPS-110, which IGNOU posts in print unless digital material was chosen at admission. A complete course book is prepared for each of the ten codes as a companion, and a learner orders only the codes on the record.
IGNOU’s own MA Political Science blocks are free on eGyanKosh and in the IGNOU e-Content app. Those are the only legitimate free copies. A PDF of a paid help book, including the ₹99 soft copy sold here, is not free material.
Yes, the July 2026 Common Prospectus lists MAPS in English and Hindi medium, so IGNOU’s blocks and the complete course books both come in either. The medium on your admission record decides which one you receive.
A learner whose IGNOU MA Political Science parcel has not come should check the study material status page first, then write to MPDD at mpdd@ignou.ac.in. Meanwhile the same blocks can be read on eGyanKosh or the e-Content app.
MAPS is IGNOU’s revised 80-credit MA in Political Science with course codes MPS-101 to MPS-110, while MPS is the earlier 64-credit programme with MPS-001 to MPS-004 and MPSE electives. Learners admitted before the revision continue on MPS until they finish.
The eGyanKosh PDF is IGNOU’s own study material, so it covers every MAPS syllabus by itself. A help book only shortens the last reading before a paper; it replaces no block, and IGNOU does not examine from it.
Buy an IGNOU MA Political Science help book only if its cover carries your exact course codes, your medium and a current edition. Treat any promise of marks, or of the questions that will appear, as a reason not to buy.
Each IGNOU MAPS complete course book costs ₹249 as a hard copy or ₹99 as a soft copy, with one fixed ₹100 delivery charge on a hard-copy order. Ten MAPS Year I books come to ₹2,590 in hard copy or ₹990 in soft copy.
IGNOU’s December 2026 date sheet schedules all twenty earlier MPS Year II electives between 7 December and 30 December 2026. MPSE-001 comes first, on 7 December, and MGPE-013 last, on 30 December.
No, IGNOU’s December 2026 date sheet dated 21 September 2026 has no paper for MPS-101 or any other revised MAPS code. The political science papers of that session belong to the earlier MPS structure, from 7 December 2026 to 8 January 2027.
MAPS Year I at IGNOU needs 1,200 hours of official study, since its ten courses carry 4 credits each and IGNOU counts 30 hours per credit. That is 120 hours for each course from MPS-101 to MPS-110.
Search eGyanKosh by the exact code, because revised MAPS material is filed course by course. MPS-102 blocks sit under their Block 1 to Block 3 titles; if a revised code does not show, the IGNOU e-Content app and your Regional Centre are the official alternatives.
IGNOU allows a change of elective within 30 days of receiving the first set of course material. For a Master’s programme the fee is Rs.600 for a 2 or 4 credit course and Rs.1,200 for a 6 or 8 credit course, per section 14.14 of the July 2026 Common Prospectus.
No, a paper coded MAPS-102 is not an IGNOU paper, because IGNOU numbers its MA Political Science courses MPS-101 to MPS-110. Uttarakhand Open University uses MAPS-102 for its own Indian Political System paper.
A complete course book for a revised MPS code holds that course’s chapters and its important questions and answers. IGNOU has not yet set a term-end paper for MPS-101 to MPS-110, so the previous papers a revised book uses are confirmed on WhatsApp before payment.
The soft copy of a MAPS course book is sent on WhatsApp once the order is confirmed, and the hard copy is dispatched by courier the next day. Courier details with the tracking ID come on WhatsApp, and no delivery date is promised.
Yes, MPSE-004 carries the same code in the MA History and MA Sociology tables, so one MPSE-004 course book serves learners in all three programmes. The July 2026 Common Prospectus prints it in both tables; send the code and your medium on WhatsApp to confirm.
