Two Dates Decide Your MPS Session: 31 March and 30 September

Read off the live MPS-001 booklet for July 2025 and January 2026, published by the School of Social Sciences at ignou.ac.in. These are not the dates a School of Management Studies learner is working to.

If you have seen 31 October and 30 April attached to your MPS papers somewhere, those belong to the School of Management Studies and to programmes such as MBA and M.Com. Political Science sits in the School of Social Sciences, abbreviated SOSS on IGNOU’s own paperwork, and prints a different pair. Copying a friend’s deadline across programmes is how a session gets lost, because a missed cut-off does not cost marks — it removes your eligibility to sit that course’s term-end examination at all. Dates also shift by session and by Regional Centre, so confirm yours on ignou.ac.in and with your allotted centre before you rely on them.

Thirty Marks in Every MPS Course Are Decided Before You Sit the Exam

Assignments carry 30 per cent of the final course result and the term-end examination carries the remaining 70 per cent. Every MPS and MPSE paper is marked out of 100, so a learner registered in four first-year courses is carrying 400 assignment marks into the grade card before the examination hall opens. Those marks are also the easiest ones on the whole programme to collect, because the questions are printed in advance, the word limits are printed next to them, and nobody is timing you.

The MPS question pattern is unusually stable across the catalogue. Almost every paper asks you to answer five questions in all, drawing at least two from each section, at roughly 500 words each, with 20 marks against each question. Section II then converts into short notes of about 250 words per part. A single MPSE elective therefore runs to something in the region of 2,500 written words once the short notes are counted, and eight second-year electives compound that into a stack most working learners simply do not have the evenings for.

What makes Political Science harder to hand-write than most is that the answers are argumentative rather than formulaic. There is no worked calculation to copy out. Each 500-word answer needs an introduction, a position, evidence and a conclusion, which is why IGNOU’s own second-year booklet separates Descriptive Category Questions from Short Category Questions and explains what each is testing. A handwritten assignment prepared to those instructions is the same document you would have produced yourself, in your own handwriting, without the eight weekends.

Every MPS, MPSE, MGP, MGPE and MED Code, With Credits and Titles

Two structures are live at the same time. The four-course first year plus eight-elective second year is the 64-credit MPS most currently registered learners are in. The ten semester courses numbered MPS 101 to MPS 110 belong to the revised 80-credit MAPS printed in the July 2026 Common Prospectus. Read your own codes off your admission record before ordering anything.

All four first-year papers are compulsory, and all four carry the same 100 marks and the same five-answer pattern. MPS-003 is also cross-listed inside the MA Public Administration programme, where the July 2026 Common Prospectus prints it as an 8-credit optional course — useful confirmation of the weight these core papers carry, and one reason the MPA project guidance on this site keeps turning up in Political Science searches.

That third column is the single most useful thing on this page. Look down it and you will see three different assignment-code formats inside one programme. The MPSE papers print ASST/TMA/2025-26 with no course code anywhere in it. The Gandhi and Peace Studies papers borrowed from MGPE print Assignment /TMA/2025-26, with a space before the slash. Only the two environment papers borrowed from the School of Sciences print the course code in the assignment code at all, as MED-002/TMA/2025-26. IGNOU’s MPS learner is therefore the one learner in the university who cannot identify a paper from its assignment code, and the MGPE project material on this site shows the same code family turning up in a different programme entirely.

The practical consequence is on the cover sheet. Because the assignment code does not name the course, the course code field on your front page is doing all the identifying work. Fill that field wrong and a correctly written MPSE-006 set is filed as something else. Programme code, course code, enrolment number and Study Centre code all matter more in Political Science than they do in a programme whose TMA code spells out the paper for you.

Twenty credits in Semester I and twenty in Semester II come to forty. The prospectus states the revised programme is worth 80 credits across four semesters, and says in its own opening paragraph that the third and fourth semesters will carry core and elective courses. It then does not print them. The Total Credits row under Semester II is left blank. Anyone counting the table gets 40 and anyone reading the paragraph gets 80, and IGNOU has not yet published the papers that would close the gap.

What Happens Between Your TMA Booklet and the Courier

Five stages of the handwritten assignment, in the order they actually run. Nothing here is automated and nothing is printed.

1. Your codes are pinned to a session before a word is written

   MPS codes recur across sessions with different questions behind them, so MPSE-004 for 2023-24 is not MPSE-004 for 2025-26. The first thing confirmed is which session’s booklet your handwritten set is being written from, because the assignment code prints only a year span and will not tell anyone afterwards which paper was used.

2. The live booklet is opened, not a stored copy

   Questions for the handwritten answers are taken from the current School of Social Sciences (SOSS) booklet for your codes rather than from a previous year’s stored file. Political Science questions are rewritten more heavily than most between sessions — the 2025-26 MPS-001 paper asks about political theory and democracy in wording noticeably different from the 2024-25 one, with new short-note topics attached.

3. Handwritten answers are planned to the printed word limit, then written

   Roughly 500 words for each Section I answer and roughly 250 for each short note, with at least two answers drawn from each section as the paper instructs. Descriptive answers open with a position and close with a conclusion, which is what IGNOU’s own guidance asks for. Those limits, printed on your paper, set the length.

4. The handwritten assignment goes onto A4 in blue or black, with a left margin

   The handwritten assignment is written out by hand, not typed and not printed. Each handwritten answer starts fresh with its question number, key terms are underlined once, handwriting is kept legible rather than decorative, and the left margin is left clear for the evaluator’s remarks. Red and green are avoided because those are the evaluator’s colours.

5. Cover page filled, set checked, courier booked

   Programme code, course code, course title, enrolment number, Study Centre code, session and your name go onto the front sheet. Handwritten pages are ordered course-wise and never mixed between subjects, and the handwritten set goes out by courier at no charge beyond the ₹320. Matching Your Own Handwriting on MPS Answer Sheets

Send a photo of a page you have written yourself and the handwritten set is matched to your own handwriting at no extra charge. A shopping list, an old notebook page, half a page of anything — what is needed is your natural letterforms, slant and spacing, not a specimen written carefully for the purpose.

This matters more in Political Science than in a numerate programme. An MPS learner submits eight or more essay-length handwritten papers across two years, all in continuous prose, and a Study Centre coordinator handling the same enrolment number twice will notice if the handwriting changes between MPS-002 and MPSE-008. Consistency across a stack is the point of the match, not disguise.

It also protects the declaration you are about to sign. You sign the declaration on the assignment cover page, so you should read and review the content before submitting it, and satisfy yourself that it represents your own understanding of the course. A handwritten set in handwriting that looks nothing like your own makes that harder to stand behind, and there is no extra charge for avoiding the problem.

Downloading the Right MPS Paper From IGNOU’s Two Portals

The MPS question papers are free and official. The difficulty is that IGNOU publishes them in two places and the two do not agree on which session is current.

1. Start at the official assignment portal

   The university’s download page for assignments is at ignou.ac.in/studentService/download/assignments. Everything below is reached from there. Never trust a direct PDF link somebody has pasted into a group without checking the session printed inside it.

2. Know that the Master’s programme index runs behind

   The programme-wise index at webservices.ignou.ac.in lists M.A. (Political Science) and, at the time this page was written, showed 2024-25 as its newest MPS set for both first and second year, in English and Hindi. The School of Social Sciences pages on the main ignou.ac.in domain carry the 2025-26 papers. If your booklet says 2024-25 and you were admitted in July 2025, you have the older portal’s copy.

3. Check the session line, not the file name

   Open the PDF and read the line under the School of Social Sciences heading. The current first-year booklet says July 2025 and January 2026 Sessions and prints ASST/TMA/2025-26 against each course. A file named for one year and printing another inside is the older paper renamed.

4. Take only the codes you are registered in

   The second-year booklet carries all twenty optional papers in one document and says plainly to do the assignments only of those courses you are enrolled in and leave the rest. Learners who hand-write the whole booklet have wasted most of a month of assignment writing.

No 2026-27 MPS set had been published when this page was written, so a July 2026 admission is working from the 2025-26 paper until IGNOU issues the next one. That is normal for this programme rather than a sign anything has gone wrong. From Study Centre Receipt to MPS Grade Card

The MPS booklet is specific about what happens after you hand the set in. Assignments go to the Coordinator of the Study Centre allotted to you. You obtain a receipt and retain it. You keep a photocopy of what you submitted. The Study Centre returns the evaluated set to you afterwards and IGNOU’s booklet tells you to insist on this. The marks are then forwarded to the evaluation division at headquarters, which the first-year booklet calls the Student Evaluation Division and the second-year booklet calls the SR and E Division.

Assignment status then takes time to surface on the grade card. An assignment status line that shows your term-end result but no assignment mark against MPSE-011 is the normal sequence rather than a lost submission, because examination marks are usually posted before assignment marks. The retained receipt is what settles the question if the entry never appears; without it there is no record on your side that the set was ever handed over.

A course shows Completed only when both components are passed. If you passed the term-end examination in MPS-003 but the assignment mark is missing or below the pass line, that course sits at Not Completed and you resubmit the assignment alone rather than sitting the examination again. Learners lose whole cycles by assuming the reverse.

Track the entries as they appear on the assignment marks status page, read the codes on the assignment grade card page, check whether the card has been refreshed on the grade card status page, and see how the components combine into the final grade card. Postgraduate results across the MA programmes are collected on the MA result page, and the aggregate arithmetic is handled by the CGPA calculator. What MPS Learners Usually Order in the Same Message

None of these is bundled into the ₹320. That figure covers one handwritten assignment set for one course code and nothing else, which is why it does not move when a second service is added to the same conversation.

Placing an MPS Order: What to Send and What Comes Back

Ordering a handwritten assignment needs no cart and no account. One WhatsApp message carrying five things is the entire process, and the five are all readable off documents you already have.

• Your course codes. MPS-001 through MPS-004, or your specific MPSE, MGP, MGPE or MED electives, or the MPS 101 to MPS 110 semester codes if you are in the revised structure. Read them off your admission record rather than from memory.
• Your session. July or January, and which year. This decides which booklet your answers are written from, and it is the one detail the assignment code on the paper will not confirm afterwards.
• Your medium. English or Hindi. IGNOU publishes MPS in both and the service covers all mediums IGNOU issues the TMA paper in, at the same price.
• A handwriting sample. One photo of any page in your own handwriting. Optional, free, and the thing most learners skip and later wish they had not.
• Your delivery address with pin code. Delivery depends on your pin code and is confirmed for your order before you pay. No figure is promised on this page.

What comes back is a handwritten hard copy, one bundle per course code, cover pages filled in and signed where the declaration requires a signature, couriered to that address. No soft copy or PDF is sold. If your Regional Centre asks for an upload, you scan the delivered pages yourself and submit the scan — the routes are compared on the submission page.
