IGNOU BSCM Books: Science Discipline Codes, Lab Pairs and Course Books

BSCM December 2026 Papers Open on 25 November With BPHCT-131

IGNOU’s December 2026 date sheet enforces the BSCM group rule on the calendar: Mathematics and Botany share Group 3, and their first papers, BMTC-131 and BBYCT-131, both sit on 5 December, while their second papers share 12 December. Zoology and Geography, the two Group 4 sciences, share all four of their dates. A learner can never hold both sciences of a group, so no clash arises, but anyone buying books from a friend should know that a Botany book and a Mathematics book were never meant for the same registration.

None of the 21 laboratory codes appears in the theory schedule; lab dates come from your Regional Centre. IGNOU accepts reports of a date discrepancy at datesheet@ignou.ac.in only until 25 September 2026, and it has not yet published the June 2027 date sheet. Every paper’s timing across programmes is collected on the December 2026 exam date sheet page, and the IGNOU hall ticket guide explains the admit card, whose printed date is final.

What One BSCM Semester of Blocks Costs in Study Hours

A Semester 2 BSCM learner carries 660 hours of official study, the heaviest term in the programme, because Semester 2 holds 22 credits. IGNOU’s Common Prospectus for July 2026 counts one credit as 30 hours of learner study, so a 4-credit course carries 120 hours and a 6-credit course 180 hours.

Take a learner who picks Physics as Discipline A, Chemistry as Discipline B and Mathematics as Discipline C, one of the eleven combinations the prospectus suggests.

• Semester 1, 18 credits, 540 hours. BPHCT-131 with its laboratory BPHCL-132, BCHCT-131 with BCHCL-132, and one 6-credit inter-disciplinary course. Five course books.
• Semester 2, 22 credits, 660 hours. BPHCT-133 with BPHCL-134, the first Mathematics paper BMTC-131, BEVAE-181 and BEDSV-101 Value Education. Five course books again.

Spread over 180 days, Semester 1 asks for 3 hours of reading every day and Semester 2 for 3.7, before a single assignment is written. The two laboratory codes add 60 hours each, and the Programme Guide makes every lab session compulsory, while theory counselling is optional.

BZYCT-131 Animal Diversity carries 4 credits and 4 blocks on eGyanKosh, from Acoelomates to Amniota, but other BSCM courses do not divide so neatly, which is why hours are the safer measure. IGNOU issues printed study material either as a single book of blocks and units or as separate blocks for every course, on an average one block per credit, and a block usually comprises 3 to 5 units. The first block of BPHCT-131 Mechanics holds 4 units and an appendix on calculus, the Block 1 record of BMTC-131 Calculus holds six items, and IGNOU’s own course page for BMTE-144 describes two volumes whose blocks run to 3 or 4 units each. Official BSCM Blocks, a Guide Book or an eGyanKosh File: Which Comes First?

IGNOU’s own blocks come first for every BSCM course, a guide book comes later for revision, and a PDF counts as legitimate only when IGNOU issued it. Self-learning material (SLM) is IGNOU’s own course content for BSCM: blocks of 3 to 5 units for each theory course, a laboratory manual for each lab course, posted to learners who did not choose digital material and open to anyone on eGyanKosh. A help book, also called a guide book, is a revision volume from a publisher outside IGNOU that condenses one course for the term-end paper; IGNOU does not write or endorse it. A free PDF is legitimate only when the file is IGNOU’s own, taken from egyankosh.ac.in or the IGNOU e-Content Mobile App.

IGNOU keeps its files in the Bachelor of Science (Multidisciplinary) collection on eGyanKosh, with the BSCM Programme Guide record beside it. Anyone searching for an IGNOU BSCM pdf free download should use those, or the walkthrough to IGNOU’s own study material files; copies on mirror sites cannot be checked for edition or completeness. Official study material is linked here only at egyankosh.ac.in, and this page does not host or redistribute IGNOU’s files. Four checks apply before paying anyone for a BSCM help book. The code on the cover must be on your registration, whatever programme name is printed beside it. The Sanskrit language paper is examined as BSKAE-182, though the BSCM table prints BSDAE-182. The medium must match your admission. And a book that promises marks, or claims to know the questions, promises what no publisher can know.

All 100 BSCM Codes, Their Slots, Paper Dates and Course Books

Every one of the 100 BSCM course codes in the July 2026 prospectus has its own complete course book, priced at ₹249 hard copy or ₹99 soft copy. They split into 49 discipline codes (28 theory papers, 21 laboratory courses), 13 inter-disciplinary codes, 5 ability enhancement codes, 1 value-added course, 5 vocational courses and 27 skill enhancement courses. A learner uses 12 discipline papers, their lab partners, and one course from each other slot, never all 100.

BSCM is IGNOU’s current Bachelor of Science (Multidisciplinary), run under the four-year undergraduate framework; BSCG is the older CBCS Bachelor of Science from which BSCM carries over discipline codes such as BPHCT-131 and BZYCT-131, described on the BSCG programme page, and BSCM is not B.Sc. The Sem column reads “1 or 2” because a discipline paper moves with its slot. Discipline A takes its four papers in Semesters 1, 2, 4 and 5; Discipline B in Semesters 1, 3, 4 and 6; Discipline C, the science added last, in Semesters 2, 3, 5 and 6. Every science totals 24 credits, but it gets there differently: Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Physics and Zoology pair a 4-credit theory course with a 2-credit laboratory course four times, Mathematics runs four single 6-credit papers with no lab, and Geography mixes three 6-credit papers with one theory and lab pair, BGGCT-133 and BGGCL-134.

IGNOU’s BSCM collection on eGyanKosh holds 652 files, of which 306 carry an issue year of 2020, 140 of 2021, 109 of 2019, 67 of 2022, 20 of 2018 and only one of 2025. The official-material links in the table open a course’s own record where one exists, and otherwise the BSCM collection or its Chemistry collection, both searchable by code. The laboratory manual for BPHCL-132 is filed as a single item rather than in blocks.

Which Books Each BSCM Semester Needs, Slot by Slot

Each BSCM semester needs four to six course books, and which codes they are depends on whether a science is your Discipline A, B or C. Read each semester below as a short decision: find your three sciences, then the slot each one occupies.

The complete course book covers one course code with its chapters, the latest previous years’ solved papers and the important questions and answers; the semester-wise Last Minute Exam Guide covers a whole semester at ₹249 with the important questions and answers only. No BSCM semester guide page has been published on this site, so each BSCM order placed from this page is an order for course books.

Semester 1: Sciences A and B Begin, Plus One Outside Course

If a science is your Discipline A or B, its first paper starts now: a theory and lab pair such as BZYCT-131 with BZYCL-132, or a single code for Mathematics (BMTC-131) and Geography (BGGCT-131). Add one 6-credit inter-disciplinary course, such as BEGG-171 or BHIE-143. Credits: 18. Books: 3 to 5, depending on how many lab pairs you hold.

Semester 2: Science C Starts Beside Environmental Studies

Discipline A moves to its second paper, and Discipline C starts its first paper here, even though the table’s Semester 2 row prints only second-level codes. BEVAE-181 Environmental Studies and BEDSV-101 Value Education are fixed. Credits: 22. Books: 4 to 6. Leaving after this year earns the UG Certificate at 40 credits, plus 4 vocational credits.

Semester 3: Level Two for B and C, With Language and Skill Picks

Disciplines B and C take their second papers, for example BGYCT-133 with BGYCL-134. Choose one language course, BEGAE-182, BHDAE-182, BUDAE-182 or the Sanskrit paper, and one skill course from eleven, such as BCHS-183 Laboratory Management Skills. Credits: 20. Books: 4 to 6.

Semester 4: Level Three for A and B, Plus Vocational Work

Disciplines A and B reach their third papers: BMTE-141 for Mathematics, BGGCT-133 with BGGCL-134 for Geography, the 135 pairs for the other sciences. One vocational course from five and one skill course from six are added; all six skill options sit on 26 December in the current date sheet. Credits: 20. Books: 4 to 6. The UG Diploma exit comes after this year, at 80 credits plus 4 vocational credits.

Semester 5: Science A Ends, Science C Reaches Level Three

Discipline A closes with its fourth paper, for instance BMTE-144 or BPHCT-137 with BPHCL-138; Discipline C takes its third. A second vocational course and one skill course from five complete the term. Credits: 20. Books: 4 to 6.

Semester 6: Sciences B and C End Together

Disciplines B and C take their fourth papers, a third vocational course is added, and the skill choice narrows to BPCS-188, BEGS-186 or BPAS-186, all examined on 3 December in the current sheet. Credits: 20. Books: 4 to 6. A Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics learner needs 31 course books across the degree; a Physics, Chemistry and Zoology learner, with one more lab pair per level, needs 35.

Getting IGNOU’s Printed BSCM Blocks, Step by Step

IGNOU posts the printed BSCM blocks after admission unless you opted for digital material, and each problem along the way has one official route. Work through the steps in order.

1. Check which option you chose. A learner who opts for the soft copy of the self-learning material in the online admission form receives a 15 per cent concession on the programme fee and is not sent printed material.
2. Track the parcel. The dispatch status of printed material is checked on the official study material status page linked from ignou.ac.in. The address is the IGNOU study material status link, and the enrolment number guide shows where your number is printed.
3. Read online while you wait. eGyanKosh, at egyankosh.ac.in, is IGNOU’s free digital repository of self-learning material. The site’s eGyanKosh how-to explains the search, the Gyankosh access route covers the older spelling, and the IGNOU e-Content Mobile App carries the same digitised material.
4. Report non-receipt. Non-receipt of printed study material is taken up with the Registrar, Material Production and Distribution Division (MPDD), IGNOU, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi 110068, at mpdd@ignou.ac.in. The prospectus contact table adds 011-29572008 and 29572012.
5. Escalate if needed. An unresolved complaint can be lodged on iGRAM, IGNOU’s grievance portal, quoting each missing code.
6. Fix a wrong course early. A change of elective or course is allowed within 30 days of receiving the first set of material, at Rs. 350 for a 2 or 4 credit course and Rs. 700 for a 6 or 8 credit course for undergraduates, through the Regional Centre.
7. Book your lab sessions. The Programme Guide makes every laboratory session compulsory, so ask your Study Centre for the lab schedule of each lab code you hold.

IGNOU prints no dispatch period for its books, and none is given here. Keep copies of every message you send about missing material.

BSCG Labels, Hindi Blocks and the Codes That Changed

Medium, for IGNOU, means the language of teaching and of the examination; the July 2026 prospectus lists English and Hindi for BSCM. The complete course book is prepared in each medium IGNOU offers for the programme, and your medium is confirmed with your course codes on WhatsApp. Four labels confuse BSCM learners; each is shown as learners first meet it, then as the documents settle it.

Before: IGNOU’s 2025 assignment booklet for BZYCT-131 is headed Bachelor’s Degree Programme (BSCG), so a Zoology learner wonders whether the course is theirs. After: BZYCT-131 is BSCM’s first Zoology paper; the same code means the same course, blocks and book.

Before: science blocks look English-only. After: eGyanKosh keeps Hindi records such as BPHCT-131 यांत्रिकी, whose Block 3 is titled घूर्णी गति ओर बहु कण निकाय, Hindi titles for the Zoology laboratory courses, and Sankhyatmak vishleshan for BMTE-144.

Before: the E in BMTE-141 and BMTE-144 reads like an optional elective. After: in BSCM they are the third and fourth papers of every Mathematics learner, and IGNOU’s course page for BMTE-144 assumes BMTC-131 and BMTE-141 have been studied first.

Before: the Sanskrit language course is printed BSDAE-182. After: it is examined as BSKAE-182, so look for that code on the admit card. Courses for each new year are confirmed through the re-registration form guide.

Two Free BSCM Tools for Codes, Labs and Dates

Both tools run in your browser from the July 2026 prospectus and IGNOU’s tentative December 2026 date sheet of 21 September. They do not connect to any IGNOU system and never ask for an enrolment number.

Print pays off for papers you will work through with a pencil for weeks, such as BMTC-132 Differential Equations; the PDF makes sense when the paper date is close.

BSCM Assignments, Past Papers and Revision Pages

Assignments carry 30 per cent of the final course result and the term-end examination carries the remaining 70 per cent. IGNOU’s own BZYCT-131 assignment booklet states the same 30 per cent weightage.
