Synopsis and project report review
Check the file against IGNOU’s own rules before anyone else reads it
Your IGNOU project or synopsis needs correction if it misses a requirement in your project guide booklet: an unsigned proforma, a required guide bio-data not signed in original, a report title that differs from the approved one, or an unsigned originality certificate. Run the self-check below, or order a paid 1-day mistake report that lists every error found.
Fees, all paid upfront before work starts
Mistake report, delivered within 1 dayRs 2,000
Correction of a synopsis, after the reportRs 1,000
Correction of a project report, after the reportRs 2,000
Correction is a separate, optional step. Its turnaround is confirmed when you send your file.
What counts as an IGNOU project correction?
Any change that brings a synopsis or project report into line with your programme’s project guidelines counts, whether an IGNOU evaluator asked for it or you found the gap yourself.
An IGNOU project correction is a change that brings a synopsis or project report into line with the programme’s official project guidelines. Under the MMPP-001 Project Guidelines, a synopsis is not entertained without a proforma signed and dated by the student and the guide, and the guide’s bio-data signed in original, though approved academic counsellors are exempt. Its objectives must be written neutrally, and its methodology must name the design, data source, sample, tools and statistical tools. The final report must carry the exact approved title, a table of contents with page numbers, the approved proposal bound in rather than stapled, and a Certificate of Originality signed and dated by the student and the guide. A report missing these documents is returned for compliance. A synopsis that is not approved goes back with a fresh proforma, the returned proposal bearing the evaluator’s comments, and the Project Proposal Number. Other courses differ: PGDET MESP135 needs no guide or synopsis at all.

In the MMPP-001 and MEVP-001 documents, synopsis means the project proposal, sent with the proforma before project work starts; its parts and layout are on the IGNOU synopsis format page. Rules differ by programme, and yours are in the project guide booklet that, per Section 1.11(e) of the Common Prospectus July 2026, comes with the study material.
Can you check your synopsis or report yourself first?
Yes. The IGNOU Project Self-Check below asks up to 13 questions, answered Yes, No or Not sure, and lists each gap your answers show, with its fix and its source.
The self-check is free to use and shows its full summary on screen. It is a self-assessment of your own answers, not the paid expert review of an IGNOU project correction order.
IGNOU Project Self-Check
Free self-assessment based on your answers, in three short steps. The tool does not read or upload your project file.
Step 1 of 3
Correction after the report costs Rs 1,000 for a synopsis and Rs 2,000 for a project report.
Which checks does the self-check run?
The same 13 checks appear below as a table. Official rules come from an IGNOU document; Best practice marks advice where IGNOU prints no rule.
| ID | Check | Stage | Basis | Verified for | Priority | Fix if the answer is no |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| R01 | Has your synopsis been approved in writing? | Project report | Official: MMPP-001 Project Guidelines (SOMS, IGNOU), Synopsis Evaluation Process | MMPP-001, MEVP-001 | High | Hold the report until the written approval arrives. The MMPP-001 Guidelines allow project work only after the synopsis is approved. |
| R02 | Does your guide meet the eligibility in your project guide booklet and guide five or fewer students? | Synopsis and report | Official: MMPP-001 Project Guidelines (SOMS, IGNOU), Selection of Guide (five-student limit); eligibility lists vary by programme | MMPP-001 | Verify | Match the guide against the eligibility list in your own booklet and confirm the student count before signing. A change of guide later is treated as a new proposal. |
| R03 | Is the proforma signed and dated by you and your guide? | Synopsis and report | Official: MMPP-001 Project Guidelines (SOMS, IGNOU), Submission of Synopsis | MMPP-001, MEVP-001 | High | Get both signatures, each with a date. Without the signed proforma the synopsis is not entertained. |
| R04 | Is your guide's bio-data signed in original and dated (unless your booklet exempts your guide)? | Synopsis and report | Official: MMPP-001 Project Guidelines (SOMS, IGNOU), Submission of Synopsis | MMPP-001, MEVP-001 | High | Attach a detailed bio-data signed in original and dated by the guide. Confirm in your booklet whether approved academic counsellors are exempt. |
| R05 | Is the report title identical to the approved title, word for word? | Project report | Official: MMPP-001 Project Guidelines (SOMS, IGNOU), Title of the Project | MMPP-001 | High | Copy the title exactly as approved. The MMPP-001 Guidelines allow no change when the final report is submitted. |
| R06 | Are your objectives stated clearly and neutrally, without assuming the findings? | Synopsis and report | Official: MMPP-001 Project Guidelines (SOMS, IGNOU), Preparation of Synopsis (Objectives) | MMPP-001 | High | Rewrite each objective without an implied answer, for example 'To analyse the factors affecting…'. |
| R07 | Does the methodology name the research design, data source, sample and sampling, tools and statistical tools? | Synopsis and report | Official: MMPP-001 Project Guidelines (SOMS, IGNOU), Research Methodology | MMPP-001, MEVP-001 | High | Name every element and state how each tool and each statistical test relates to an objective. |
| R08 | Is the questionnaire (or other tool) you used annexed, and does every question trace back to an objective? | Project report | Official: MMPP-001 Project Guidelines (SOMS, IGNOU), Research Methodology and Structure of Project Report (Annexures) | MMPP-001, MEVP-001 | High | Annex the final tool and add or remove items until each objective has questions that measure it. |
| R09 | Is every cited source in the reference list, in one consistent style? | Synopsis and report | Best practice: Best practice (the MMPP-001 Guidelines name no reference style) | All courses | Advice | List every in-text source once, in one style, and check your booklet for a named style. |
| R10 | Is the Certificate of Originality signed and dated by you and your guide? | Project report | Official: MMPP-001 Project Guidelines (SOMS, IGNOU), Final Project Report must have; onlineproject.ignou.ac.in instructions (December 2023 TEE page; confirm the current session notice) | MMPP-001, MEVP-001 | High | Use the certificate format in your booklet and get both dated signatures before binding or scanning. |
| R11 | Have you checked similarity yourself and cited every source you used? | Synopsis and report | Best practice: Best practice (IGNOU requires original work: MMPP-001 Project Guidelines (SOMS, IGNOU), Plagiarism in Project Reports; no percentage printed) | All courses | Advice | Run a similarity check before submission, rewrite matched passages in your own words and cite each source. |
| R12 | Does the first page carry the portal particulars, and are all pages scanned clearly into one PDF? | Project report | Official: onlineproject.ignou.ac.in instructions (December 2023 TEE page; confirm the current session notice) | All courses | High | Put the title, name, programme code, enrolment number (not the control number), Regional Centre code, course code, mobile and email on page one. Rescan in one orientation, in sequence, as one PDF per course. |
| R13 | Have you paid the project evaluation fee with your TEE form and kept the receipt to submit with the report? | Project report | Official: onlineproject.ignou.ac.in instructions (December 2023 TEE page; confirm the current session notice) | All courses | High | From the January 2023 admission cycle, pay Rs 300 (up to 4 credits) or Rs 500 (above 4 credits) with the TEE form and submit the receipt with the report. A project without the required fee cannot be considered. |
Course-specific changes: under MEVP-001 the guide’s bio-data is needed even from academic counsellors and references follow APA, listed alphabetically; under MESP135 (PGDET) the guide, synopsis and guide-signed certificate checks R01 to R05 and R10 do not apply; under MMPP-001 approved academic counsellors need not attach bio-data. For any other course, an official rule verified only for MMPP-001 or MEVP-001 is shown as Confirm for your course, not as a failure.
What must a corrected synopsis carry when it goes back to IGNOU?
An IGNOU synopsis correction goes back with a fresh proforma, a copy of the returned proposal and of the proforma that carries the evaluator’s comments, and the Project Proposal (PP) Number the Regional Centre allotted.
A returned synopsis is not a clean restart. Section 7 of the MMPP-001 Project Guidelines says the evaluator’s comments for reformulating it are sent to the student, and the revised proposal travels with the old one. Section 6 (item 5) of the MEVP-001 Project Work Handbook prints the same three enclosures.
Each comment needs a visible answer in the revised text: objectives that assumed the findings now read neutrally, and a vague sample is now named along with how it was drawn. BK Sahni, who has guided 5,00,000 students till date, advises students to read the evaluator’s comment box line by line before rewriting a single chapter, because the resubmission is read against those comments.
Section 18 of the Common Prospectus July 2026 names the Project Co-ordinator in the concerned School or Regional Centre for synopsis approval. Keep the commented proforma, because the resubmission must include it. Programme pages on a rejected MBA synopsis and a returned MCOP-001 synopsis cover the commonest comments for those two courses, and the IGNOU synopsis approval process guide explains what happens after the file is posted.
What if the evaluator approved the synopsis but not the supervisor?
Then the synopsis still goes back, as a new proposal. The proforma records one verdict for the synopsis and one for the supervisor, and either can fail alone. Section 6 of the MMPP-001 Guidelines says the student then changes the guide and submits afresh with the new guide’s signature; any later change of guide follows the same route.
That is why signatures and bio-data belong in any IGNOU synopsis correction. MMPP-001 exempts approved academic counsellors from the bio-data, the MEVP-001 proforma does not, and an MMPP-001 guide may guide at most five students; eligibility routes are in the IGNOU project guide eligibility guide.
Which errors should be corrected before the project report is submitted?
Correct anything that makes the report differ from the approved synopsis or leaves out a required document: the title, the chain from objectives to findings, the bound approved proposal, the originality certificate, the first-page particulars and the scan.
Under the MMPP-001 Guidelines, the cover page names the student, enrolment number, guide and title, and every page is numbered as the table of contents shows. The approved proposal, proforma and bio-data are bound in, since a stapled proposal is not accepted, and a report missing them is returned for compliance.
Does the report title have to match the approved title exactly?
For MMPP-001, yes. Its Project Guidelines say the final report must be on the title approved by the evaluator and that no change can be made when the report is submitted. A title that drifts by even a word is one of the simplest IGNOU project correction items to fix and one of the easiest to miss, so settle it before approval; the guide to choosing an IGNOU project topic covers how narrow it should be.
How must objectives, methodology, questionnaire and findings line up?
As one chain, under MMPP-001. The MMPP-001 Guidelines ask for objectives stated neutrally, without assumptions about the findings, and a methodology that names the research design, the nature and source of data, the sample and sampling technique, the tools with their relevance to the objectives, and the statistical tools with their relevance to the objectives. The report adds the reliability and validity of the tools, and the questionnaire goes into the annexures.
A mismatch shows when a questionnaire item measures nothing an objective asks, or an objective ends without a finding. Both are fixed by working backwards from the objectives, as the questionnaire and data collection guide walks through.
What does the upload portal check on page one and in the scan?
The December 2023 onlineproject.ignou.ac.in instructions ask for page one to carry the report title, name, programme code, enrolment number as on the ID card (not the control number), Regional Centre code, course code, mobile and email. Wherever applicable, the approved proforma in original, synopsis, guide bio-data and originality certificate signed and dated by both go inside.
Pages must be clear, in sequence, in one orientation and in a single PDF per course; a report not in order is not considered, and no communication is sent. From the January 2023 admission cycle, the evaluation fee is Rs 300 up to 4 credits and Rs 500 above 4 credits, paid with the Term-End Examination form; the receipt may go with the report, and without the fee the report cannot be considered. Confirm your session’s notice. The upload itself is covered in the IGNOU project submission guide.
How do the rules differ between MMPP-001, MEVP-001, MESP135 and MGGP 001?
The four project courses differ on whether a guide and a synopsis are needed at all, on bio-data from counsellors, on report length and on the reference style, so a correction that is right under one course can be wrong under another.
| Rule | MMPP-001 (MBA) | MEVP-001 (MAEOH / PGDEOH) | MESP135 (PGDET) | MGGP 001 (MSCGG) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Credits | 8 | 4 | 8 | 8 |
| Guide | Required; at most 5 students per guide | Required; faculty or counsellors in listed disciplines | Not required | Not specified in this programme entry |
| Synopsis | Written approval before project work starts | Written decision within six weeks of receipt | No synopsis submission | Synopsis and topic finalised in Semester 3; project registered in Semester 4 |
| Guide bio-data | Signed in original; approved academic counsellors exempt | Needed even from academic counsellors | Not applicable | Confirm in the project guide booklet |
| Report length | About 50 to 60 double-spaced typed pages, not over about 18,000 words excluding appendices and exhibits; rational variation permitted | About 40 to 50 double-spaced typed pages, about 10,000 words excluding appendices and exhibits, 10 per cent either side | Follow the project manual | Confirm in the project guide booklet |
| Marks | Not printed in the Guidelines | 100 marks, 70 of them for the report; 40 per cent to pass | Not specified in this programme entry | Not specified in this programme entry |
| References | No style named | APA style, listed alphabetically | Follow the project manual | Confirm in the project guide booklet |
Official documents can differ: the MEVP-001 Handbook accepts M.Sc. or MA holders with 2 years of relevant experience, while Section 8.36 of the Common Prospectus July 2026 prints 5 years for PGDENOH supervisors, and Section 3.62 has MJMP-120 learners arrange their own supervisor. Confirm any rule here in your own project guide booklet before correcting to it.
What the IGNOU documents on this page do not specify
- A similarity percentage for a taught project, in either the MMPP-001 Guidelines or the MEVP-001 Handbook.
- A font face, font size or margin width; MMPP-001 asks only for A-4 size, typed, double-spaced pages.
- A reference style for MMPP-001; only MEVP-001 names APA.
- A page count for the synopsis, in either document.
- A limit on how many times a synopsis may be resubmitted.
Where your booklet or Regional Centre gives a figure for any of these, that instruction applies to you.
What does IGNOU say about plagiarism in a project report?
The MMPP-001 and MEVP-001 taught-project manuals require original work but print no similarity percentage. IGNOU’s published “up to 10%” norm sits in its anti-plagiarism guidelines for MPhil and PhD theses.
The MMPP-001 Guidelines require original work and say a plagiarised report is dealt with as per the policy of the University. The MEVP-001 Handbook asks supervisors to encourage original work. Neither gives a number.
The Research Unit’s notification IG/RU/URKUND/409 of 11 October 2018 sets out the IGNOU anti-plagiarism guidelines for MPhil and PhD theses, and its Annexure III records whether the similarity index is below accepted norms, up to 10%. Section 1.22 of the Common Prospectus July 2026 adds that the IGNOU library checks research papers, theses and dissertations with DrillBit Extreme software from UGC-INFLIBNET.
For a taught project, write it yourself, cite every source and check similarity before submission; a figure announced by your School or Regional Centre governs your report. MBA learners can follow the steps in the IGNOU MBA project plagiarism check guide.
How do the paid mistake report and the correction work?
You pay Rs 2,000 upfront and receive, within 1 day, a mistake report showing every error found in your synopsis or project report. Correction is a separate paid step after the report: Rs 1,000 for a synopsis and Rs 2,000 for a project report.
- Pay Rs 2,000 and send your file on WhatsApp. Payment is made before work starts.
- Receive the mistake report within 1 day. It shows every error found, measured against the rules on this page and your programme’s booklet.
- Choose whether to order the correction. Rs 1,000 for a synopsis or Rs 2,000 for a project report, also paid upfront; the turnaround is confirmed when you send your file.
You can send your own draft, a synopsis or report IGNOU has already returned with evaluator comments, or a file you simply feel needs correction. An IGNOU project correction ordered here covers every issue, whether it was raised by the IGNOU evaluator or identified by you.
The student signs the Certificate of Originality, so the student reviews the corrected file before signing it. No approval, marks or result is promised.
What do students ask about IGNOU project correction?
Is the mistake report free?
No. The mistake report costs Rs 2,000, paid before work starts, and it is delivered within 1 day. It lists every error found in your synopsis or project report. Correcting those errors is a separate paid step: Rs 1,000 for a synopsis and Rs 2,000 for a project report. The self-check on this page is a different thing: a self-assessment you run on your own answers, not the paid review.
Can a synopsis that IGNOU has already returned with comments be corrected?
Yes. Send the returned synopsis together with the proforma that carries the evaluator's comments, and the correction covers every comment as well as any other issue you want fixed. Under the MMPP-001 Guidelines and the MEVP-001 Handbook, the revised synopsis goes back with a fresh proforma, a copy of the returned proposal and proforma bearing the comments, and the Project Proposal Number.
How long does correction take after the mistake report?
The mistake report is delivered within 1 day. The turnaround for the separate paid correction is confirmed when you send your file.
Is correction included in the Rs 2,000 mistake report?
No. The Rs 2,000 fee covers the mistake report. Correction is a separate, optional paid step after the report: Rs 1,000 for a synopsis or Rs 2,000 for a project report, paid upfront before that work starts.
