Quick answer. An IGNOU MSK guess paper is a revision set of important and recurring questions, with model answers, for one MA Sanskrit course code such as MSK-002, and ignouproject.com prepares it for the December 2026 term-end examination, which IGNOU’s tentative date sheet of 21 September 2026 opens for MSK on 2 December with MSK-001 and closes on 31 December with MSK-008. The MSK papers reviewed are 3-hour, 100-mark papers set in Hindi and Sanskrit, and MSK-002 asks ten compulsory 10-mark questions, each with an internal either-or. When Do the MSK Papers Start in December 2026?
The first MA Sanskrit paper is MSK-001 on Wednesday 2 December 2026 and the last is MSK-008 on Thursday 31 December 2026, per IGNOU’s tentative date sheet printed on 21 September 2026.

The whole December 2026 cycle runs from 25 November 2026 to 13 January 2027 on the IGNOU tentative date sheet for the December 2026 term-end examination, and it asks learners to report discrepancies to datesheet@ignou.ac.in by 25 September 2026. The sheet prints codes without hyphens, so MSK-001 appears there as MSK01, and the slot is read from the column the code sits in.
First-year learners should notice one thing before anything else. MSK-001, MSK-002, MSK-003 and MSK-005 fall on 2, 3, 4 and 5 December, four consecutive days, all in the evening session per the sheet. MSK-011 follows on 10 December. That leaves no gap between the four heaviest first-year papers, so revision for MSK-005 has to be finished before 2 December, not squeezed in between papers.
No two MA Sanskrit codes share a date. The sheet does place other MSK-prefixed codes, MSK-021 to MSK-025 and MSK-031 to MSK-035, on separate dates; those belong to two different Sanskrit diplomas, not to the MA. How Much of the MSK Result Rides on the Term-End Paper?
Most of it. The term-end examination carries 70 per cent of the final course result and assignments carry the remaining 30 per cent.
The MSK papers reviewed do not print a weightage line on the cover, unlike many English-medium IGNOU papers, so the split above is IGNOU’s general scheme rather than a line read off an MSK paper. For a Sanskrit MA the practical consequence is sharp: a 100-mark paper answered in the wrong format, for example an essay where MSK-002 wants a sutra-by-sutra derivation, loses marks that assignment grades cannot recover. This guide states no pass mark for MSK, because neither the July 2026 Common Prospectus section on MSK nor the papers reviewed print one.
Guess Paper, Previous Year Paper or Solved Paper for MSK: Which Helps When?
A guess paper is a publisher’s revision set for a single course code, such as MSK-002: the questions that recur or matter most across past IGNOU papers and the syllabus, each with a model answer. Important questions, expected questions and model paper are other names learners use for the same thing. A previous year question paper is IGNOU’s own paper from an earlier term-end examination, such as the June 2025 MSK-002 paper, and IGNOU posts it free on ignou.ac.in. A solved question paper is one of those IGNOU papers answered by a publisher.

For MSK the three work best in a fixed order: IGNOU’s own papers first, because the Sanskrit and Hindi format is unusual, then a guess paper for the themes that keep returning, then the blocks for depth. What an MSK set gives you, code by code.
One code, one set. An MSK-006 learner never pays for MSK-002 grammar they are not sitting.
Sutra answers laid out. MSK-002 sets derive forms step by step, sutra cited at each step, the way the paper asks.
Either-or pairs covered. Both halves of the recurring MSK-002 choices are answered, so a learner can pick on the day.
Context before meaning. Verse explanations in MSK-001 and MSK-008 start with the prasang, then the meaning, then the notes.

MSK Course Codes, Titles and How Each Paper Is Built
The MA Sanskrit (MSK) lists twelve courses of 8 credits each in section 3.10 of the July 2026 Common Prospectus: five in the first year and seven in the second, all under the School of Humanities (SOH), taught in Hindi. The December 2026 date of every code is shown beside it, per the tentative sheet of 21 September 2026. The prospectus is summarised on the IGNOU prospectus guide.

The first year adds up to 40 credits. The second-year list adds up to 56 credits, because it includes the two MSKE electives, and the prospectus prints neither a programme total nor a rule for choosing among the second-year courses. Paper Anatomy of the MSK Codes Reviewed
The MSK-002 paper of June 2025 is 3 hours and 100 marks, with ten questions, all compulsory, each worth 10 marks, and an either-or choice inside every question. That structure appears in December 2023 as well. The table lists each reviewed code with the session of its latest IGNOU paper.

Where IGNOU’s own documents disagree, and old MSK material to avoid.
- One course, three spellings of its code. The prospectus prints “एम.एस.के. 01”, the archive files the December 2023 paper as MSK-001 but the June 2024 paper as MSK-01, and the December 2026 date sheet prints MSK01 for the first-year codes but MSK004 to MSK008 for the second-year ones. They are the same courses; search the course number, not the padding.
- MSK-001 title. The prospectus title is “संस्कृत साहित्य एवं शास्त्र साहित्य”; the December 2023 and June 2024 papers print “संस्कृत साहित्यशास्त्र एवं साहित्य”.
- Second-year credits. Twelve 8-credit courses are listed, 96 credits in all, with no total or elective rule printed.
- A new line on the paper. The June 2024 MSK-01 paper adds the instruction that all answers must be in one language, which matches the prospectus rule on medium; the December 2023 paper does not print it.
- MSK-005 layout. The December 2024 note says the paper has three khands, yet a fourth question on Vedic sutras sits after Khand-C.
- ignouproject.com’s own pages. The MSK handwritten assignment page on this site describes eight live MSK codes, while the prospectus lists twelve for the term-end examination. That page is being corrected.
- Retired material. Guess papers sold under the older “MSK 1” or “MSK 01” labels are for the same course, but any set older than June 2024 was written before the one-language instruction and should be checked against the current paper.

What the MSK Papers Asked Between June 2023 and June 2025
Sound change and the parts of a sentence appeared in the first khand of all three MSK-006 papers reviewed, June 2023, December 2023 and June 2024. That is the clearest recurrence found in the MA Sanskrit papers. MSK-002 repeats question types more than topics: both papers reviewed asked for a full declension, a siddhi of forms of the root भू and a karaka sutra.

How these counts were made. The counts come from ten IGNOU MSK question papers from June 2023 to June 2025, each reviewed by ignouproject.com on 25 September 2026: MSK-006 for June 2023, December 2023 and June 2024; MSK-001, MSK-003 and MSK-002 for December 2023; MSK-001 and MSK-003 for June 2024; MSK-005 for December 2024; and MSK-002 for June 2025. Matching is by topic, not by identical wording, and is a human judgement; a theme counts once per paper even when it appears in two options. For the December 2023 MSK-002 paper the counts use its first three questions, the part IGNOU’s online file renders as readable text, which is why one row reads 1 of 2. A theme seen in one paper is shown as seen once, not as important. The papers themselves are free: June 2023 MSK-006, December 2023 MSK-006, June 2024 MSK-006, December 2023 MSK-001, June 2024 MSK-01, December 2023 MSK-002, June 2025 MSK-002, December 2023 MSK-003, June 2024 MSK-003 and December 2024 MSK-005.
No pattern change found, one instruction added. Across the pairs reviewed, MSK-001, MSK-002, MSK-003 and MSK-006 kept the same section structure and marks. The one change is textual: the June 2024 MSK-01 paper adds that answers must be in one language. A set built on the June 2024 and June 2025 formats is therefore on the current MSK pattern, but papers from December 2025 onwards should still be checked for the code you sit.
How an MSK Revision Set Is Put Together
- Code and title fixed. The code is checked against the July 2026 Common Prospectus and the latest IGNOU paper, including the MSK-001 title difference.
- Format copied from the latest paper. Khand order, attempt rule and marks per question are taken from the most recent IGNOU paper for the code.
- Themes ranked by what returned. Themes seen across sessions, such as sound change in MSK-006, come first; themes seen once are kept but marked as seen once.
- Answers written to the marks. A 10-mark MSK-002 derivation cites each sutra in order; a 6-mark note stays short; a 20-mark passage gets context, translation and commentary.
- Medium set last. The set is prepared in the medium you write in, Sanskrit, Hindi or English, confirmed on WhatsApp.
What an MSK Guess Paper Can and Cannot Do
A guess paper is a revision aid built from past IGNOU question papers and the syllabus. No one outside IGNOU knows the questions in advance, and no claim is made that any question in this set will appear in your examination.
Where an MSK Set Helps
It helps you decide what to revise first when four first-year papers arrive on four consecutive days. It shows the answer shape each MSK paper rewards: a sutra-cited derivation for MSK-002, prasang before meaning for verse questions, and 6-mark notes that stop at the right length.
Where It Does Not
It cannot tell you which sutra or which verse IGNOU will set in December 2026. It does not replace the blocks, and for grammar in particular a learner who has not practised derivations from the blocks will not be rescued by model answers. If IGNOU changes a paper’s format after June 2025, a set built on the older format will not reflect it until it is revised.

Where to Find IGNOU’s MSK Papers and the December Sheet
IGNOU publishes MSK papers free on ignou.ac.in, session by session, and the December 2026 dates are in the Student Evaluation Division’s tentative date sheet.
- Open Student Services, then Downloads, then Question Papers on ignou.ac.in, and choose the session.
- Search the course number rather than the full code, because the same MSK course is filed as MSK-001 in one session and MSK-01 in another.
- Check the session printed on page 1 of the paper, and the code in the header, before you revise from it.
- For dates, open the latest date sheet PDF and check the date printed at the top; the version reviewed here is dated 21 September 2026.

Hall Ticket Before, Result After: The MSK Calendar Around the Papers
The hall ticket comes first: IGNOU releases it shortly before the cycle, and the IGNOU hall ticket page tracks the release, with the login steps on the hall ticket download guide. After the papers, term-end marks appear on the result pages: the most recent declared cycle is on the June 2026 result page and the general route on the IGNOU result guide. Assignment marks for MSK courses show on the assignment result and grade card page, the overall degree on the final grade card page, and a paper you believe was under-marked can go through the IGNOU revaluation process. Medium and Session for MA Sanskrit Sets
MSK is taught in Hindi, and the July 2026 Common Prospectus allows the examination to be answered in Sanskrit, Hindi or English, provided one medium is used throughout. The MSK papers reviewed are printed in Hindi, with Sanskrit passages and sutras, and the June 2024 MSK-01 paper repeats the one-language rule on its cover.
